electronic cigarettes could make them more vulnerable
After scandals involving electronic cigarettes in several deaths, doctors are concerned about their effects on the lungs if they are infected with the coronavirus.
In January, the American authorities had already prohibited the sale of perfumed refills for this type of product. However, the scientific community is concerned about the repercussions on the resistance to Covid-19 in lungs damaged by these products, especially in adolescents.
Electronic cigarettes linked to more severe symptoms of coronavirus
In the vast majority of young people affected, the virus manifests itself in a mild manner. However, researchers at the National Institute on Drug Abuse have reported that the disease hits people who are addicted the hardest.
At the same time, doctors in San Francisco are alerting to a possible link between the use of Electronic cigarettes and the prevalence of coronavirus in young people. However, no study validates these suspicions.
For now, only one scientist, Dr. Stanton Glantz, has spoken out definitively on the subject. According to him, vapers have an increased susceptibility to respiratory infections. In addition, they require a longer recovery.
Studies are still to be planned
However, these claims remain in the realm of guesswork without the support of empirical study. In fact, associations campaigning in favor of vaping and manufacturers play on these uncertainties.
Thus, the latter accuse scientists like Dr. Glantz of sensationalism, even of lying. But the vaping industry has a point. So far, only a Chinese study (still not validated) demonstrates a possible link between cigarettes and vulnerability to Covid-19. Note that the study looked at the relationship between cigarettes and the coronavirus, not electronic cigarettes.
To explain this lack of evidence, it should be noted that carrying out a study takes time, a lot of time. We will therefore have to wait to know if you really need to worry. Hopefully we won't have to wait decades like tobacco and cancer.
