Patients are increasingly finding out more about health on the Internet and are already using health apps, online health records etc. This was determined by the 2016 EPatient survey.

More and more people are using web-based health services. Especially digital patient services with new Applications support patients in treatment, therapy compliance and in dealing with diseases in general. Yet the gap widens between digital reality of the patients and the existing structures of the traditional health care system. This is the conclusion current EPatient study of the Berlin-based market research and consulting company of the same name, which anonymously surveyed 10,000 internet users who were using health-related websites, forums, etc. in the period from March 3 to May 2, 2016.

The majority of health surfers are patients

The average survey participant is 59 years old, female and well educated. 43 percent of the survey participants are patients or chronically ill. 29 percent suffer from acute complaints and 13 percent are relatives of patients. According to the study, 6 percent of the respondents use a kind of online health record in which they enter and collect data, documents and information from their practitioners (doctor, clinic, etc.) or from themselves or their relatives. 67 percent of users of online health records find that they can access their disease data much better and faster and are supported with further doctor visits and treatments. That's why you want to keep your online health record. 58 percent of the surveyed health surfers have gathered their information completely alone on the Internet. And 51 percent would like to be informed by their doctor about health-related web services.
