Estimote launches clothes against COVID-19!

The Estimote Bluetooth localization beacon has adapted its technological expertise to develop a new product designed specifically to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Estimote has created a new range of wearables which, according to co-founder Steve Cheney, can improve workplace safety for those who need to be co-located in a physical workplace. Even if measures of social distancing and physical isolation are in place.

Estimote launches clothing for COVID-19 workplace contact tracing

These devices, simply called “Proof of Health”, aim to ensure the traceability of contacts. In other words, watch for the potential spread of coronavirus from person to person. This is done through local installation at the workplace. The goal is to give employers a way to keep an eye on any possible transmission among their staff. And so give them the opportunity to limit any local spread before it becomes too great a risk.

The equipment includes a passive GPS location system. As well as proximity sensors powered by Bluetooth and ultra-wideband radio connectivity. Finally, a rechargeable battery and an LTE chip have been integrated.

It also includes manual control to modify the wearer's state of health. When a user updates their status to indicate a possible or verified infection. This updates other people they have been in contact with based on proximity and history of location data.

This information is also stored in a dashboard which provides detailed logs of possible contacts; for centralized management. Currently, this system is designed for internal use within an organization.

These wearables are supposed to come in different forms. The pebble-shaped version can be attached to a cord to be worn around a person's neck. A wrist-worn version and a card-size version are also available.

The pebble-shaped model is already in production and 2,000 copies will be deployed soon. The goal is to increase production to bring another 10,000 wearables to market very quickly.
