Fitbit and FibriCheck offer a heart rate monitoring application
[ad_1]
Fitbit and Fibricheck are extending their partnership to offer a CE certified heart rate monitoring application to Fitbit smart health connected watch users in Europe. Discovery.
Atrial fibrillation, a heart rhythm disorder often difficult to detect or diagnose due to its irregularity, is one of the main causes of stroke, the number of which in Europe should exceed 800,000 by 2035. The application FibriCheck was launched in September 2019 on Fitbit smart health connected watches in Belgium, Ireland, the Netherlands and Great Britain. Since its launch on the Fitbit operating system, more than 150,000 heart rate measurements have been made by Fitbit users, via their smart health connected watches.
Fitbit and FibriCheck, an innovative application for the detection and monitoring of cardiac arrhythmia, extend their partnership to allow Fitbit users in France, Germany, Italy and Spain to monitoring their heart rate in order to detect irregularities, such as as atrial fibrillation, straight from their Fitbit smartwatch. CE certified FibriCheck software meets the performance standards required by medical devices in the European Union (EU).
"For more than a decade, Fitbit has helped millions of users around the world take control of their health, providing a global view of their health data. Our partnership with FibriCheck expands this vision by providing users with an accessible means of detecting heart rhythm disorders using their Fitbit smartwatch. They can potentially identify and monitoring heart conditions, such as atrial fibrillation ”said Nicola Maxwell, Director of Health Solutions and Services for Fitbit EMEA.
The FibriCheck app is available on the Fitbit operating system and uses the advanced photoplethysmographic sensors of Fitbit smart watches (light-based technology that measures blood flow) to measure heart rate from the user's wrist. The measurements are displayed directly on the screen of the smart health connected watch and can be easily transmitted to healthcare professionals via the FibriCheck online interface, to help in the diagnosis of pathologies such as atrial fibrillation.
The FibriCheck application has enabled users to measure their heart rate via the camera of their smartphone since 2016. A clinical trial has been carried out to validate and support the CE certification of the application on Fitbit smart health connected watches. The Review consisted of comparing the FibriCheck measurements on these Fitbit watches with advanced technologies such as the standard 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) and single-lead ECGs of the most successful smart health connected watches.
The results showed that the FibriCheck algorithm on Fitbit smartwatches is extremely precise and can correctly detect the presence of atrial fibrillation, in a way comparable to ECGs. As a result, this innovative partnership between Fitbit and FibriCheck should allow more users in Europe to access reliable technology to monitoring their heart health.
"FibriCheck is an easy to use application, designed for people who care about their heart health or who want to check their heart rate regularly on the advice of a health professional", said Lars Grieten, Managing Director of FibriCheck. “By partnering with Fitbit, we are putting our technology at the service of millions of users who will be able to access it on their wrist, regardless of their device (smartphone, tablet); this affordable technology allows them to better understand heart health and easily pass the information on to a medical professional, who can then prescribe treatment. "
FibriCheck will be available on Fitbit Versa , Versa Lite Edition , Versa 2 and Ionic watches, and will be available in the Fitbit app gallery on smartphones. FibriCheck offers a free one-day trial and subscription service from € 3.99 per month.
A FibriCheck analysis is performed in 1 minute. The results are instantly displayed on the screen of the smart health connected watch, presented with the following color code: from green (not indicating any irregularities detected) to red (meaning that the user must consult a medical opinion). A detailed report is also available via the FibriCheck smartphone app, which can be sent to healthcare professionals.
