Fitbit plans to launch an app store "as soon as possible"

This year, Fitbit skipped hardware announcements to focus on new software. The American company seems to have made this last point a priority since it would seek to launch a full App Store "as soon as possible," says its CEO.

On the occasion of Day 2 of the CES, James Park returned on the ambitions of the American group for the years to come. In this case, the acquisition of the manufacturer of smart health connected watches Pebble turns out to be a particularly important step since Fitbit would like to develop an App Store internally like what Pebble had been offering so far.

At the top of its form, Pebble has counted up to 14,000 third-party apps for its smart health connected watches – and it is precisely this know-how that Fitbit wanted to buy back. In addition, the hardware manufacturer Pebble has been completely stopped, and the software support will also be abandoned in a few months.

James Park would also like to see this App Store out in a very short time to be able to grow with new partners and to reinforce the interaction with its customers. During CES, he also put forward a new mobile application (with a "timeline" similar to that found on Facebook) whose goal is part of this same line: increase interactions and the time spent on the application.

Now comes the question of the integration of this App Store in Fitbit products. At present, none of them is particularly imagined to offer such a section. This leaves no doubt that Fitbit is working on a new model, probably closer to a smart health connected watch
