Fitbit smartwatch and earphones are postponed until autumn

Fitbit has decided to expand its range this year: their new smart health watch and their first bluetooth headphones for sports are planned for 2017.

We knew they would come out side by side, but a source familiar with the matter told Yahoo Finance that the release of the two products would be postponed to the fall due to problems with the waterproofness and GPS of the watch.

The smartwatch that aims to compete with the Apple Watch Series 2 should be equipped with a GPS chip and a heart sensor, allow contactless payment and be waterproof.

This is precisely where the problem lies: the new Apple Watch is totally waterproof and Fitbit will not be able to compete with the apple watch with a smartwatch that takes the water.

As conceded by the source in question, the success of this product will be decisive for the future of Fitbit:

"It's literally sink or swim time for them"

As for the bluetooth headphones for sports, they should have a design quite similar to the Beats x, with two earphones in-ear smart health connected together by a cable on the neck.

They will be offered in two colors: "Nightfall blue" and "Lunar gray".

No photo has been released yet and it is not known if they will have any other features than listening to music, but it would be logical that they were designed for use coupled with the smartwatch.
