Fitbit Surge, a smart health connected watch?

[ad_1]

Last June, several sources noted that Fitbit had deposited three new names in the US trademark and patent registry. First, we have the Fitbit Charge, which is apparently a smart health connected bracelet quite similar to the Force which was withdrawn from the market at the start of the year due to allergies. Next, the name Fitbit PurePulse and Fitbit Surge.

According to the American magazine The Verge, the Fitbit Surge would be a smart health connected watch offered by the world leader in Quantified Self. It would be this object that would be the new flagship of the company, with – as for the Charge – the integration of its heart rate sensor, called PurePulse.

Fitbit Surge: More ‘bracelet’ than ‘smart health connected watch’…

According to the commercial support obtained by the American magazine, Fitbit thinks that the Surge is "far above the average" of smart health connected watches and bracelets. Closer to the GPS watch than to the Apple Watch, the Fitbit Surge would be primarily intended for an audience of athletes, with a price at $ 249. Besides, you could call it more like an "advanced smart health connected bracelet" than a real "smartwatch". From the available features, it appears that the Surge will be able to retrieve basic notifications from a smartphone, without really being able to replace it.

Fitbit Surge

Like the advanced smart health connected wristbands, it will be possible to see on a screen its statistics in real time, as well as the distances as the rhythm, the altitude or the heart rate. Like the Fitbit Flex, a vibrating alarm is available for those who want to wake up gently in the morning (obviously, the Surge will also measure sleep). Much like the Fitbit Charge, the features aren't revolutionary, and it's an almost underwhelming for a brand as good as Fitbit. With the arrival of sophisticated smartwatches like the Samsung Gear S (which integrates Nike + natively), the American brand has problems to worry about …

Nothing is known yet about the release date, but presumably it will be available in a few weeks.
