FitGuard: the smart health connected mouth guard
[ad_1]
American Anthony Gonzales had a traumatic experience during a rugby match in 2011 with a shock that made him lose his memory for a while. Based on the fact that almost 10% of American athletes suffer from concussion at least once a year, he has teamed up with a friend to develop FITGuard, a smart health connected mouth guard.
A bit like the Reebok Checklight model, LEDs placed on the front of the device provide details on the power of the impact: green = low impact, blue = medium and red = violent. In the latter case, this will signal that the athlete has a 50% chance (or not) of having a concussion. The idea is to make them stop playing, regardless of their condition: they often do not realize the sudden shocks, and they continue to play. The founder also adds that he is more relevant to use mouth level sensors, which are more accurate than headsets when it comes to measuring brain function. Like its unconnected competitors, it will adapt to the teeth of its user.
The connection is then made via Bluetooth to a smartphone application which records the data and allows the user to have a historical overview of his shots. The life of the FITGuard mouthguard is approximately 300 hours, i.e. 2 full seasons of a sport.
