[Flash] Predict healing time with FitBit

Northwest University researchers published a study to analyze the activity of a patient who has undergone a spinal operation using a FitBit activity tracker, to help doctors predict his recovery time .

In 2013, the Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minnesota, had already published a similar research but on cardiac patients. The Northwest University associated withUniversity of San Francisco in California and that of New York for the study which was itself funded by the International Spine Study Group (the International Group of Studies on the Spine). This study focuses more on non-invasive operations like scoliosis, but later the researchers hope that this process will adapt to all types of operations.

Patients will wear the FitBit 4 weeks before the operation and during the following 6 weeks. This will allow you to see precisely and in figures when the patient has recovered 50% of his functions, then 100% or even more.

Almost all patients appear to go through a 4 to 6 week period when their activity is reduced. (…) Just over a month after their operation, they return to their pre-operative activity level. Then, they continue to climb new levels that they would not have reached before. Dr. Zachary Smith – Northwest University
