GEAK Watch: Smartwatch with Android 4.1 and 1 GHz CPU

Many smartwatches are just an extension of the smartphone – they show incoming SMS, missed messages and the like. Without a mobile phone, they only show the time at best. Not so with the GEAK Watch, which is well equipped in terms of hardware and runs under Android 4.1.

The GEAK Watch is not the first smartwatch to have a life of its own. Another example of such a gadget with its own operating system is the I’m watch – Android runs on it in a heavily adapted version. Android is also the operating system of choice for the GEAK Watch, but in the very current version 4.1. We cannot say with certainty which version the I’m Watch will be installed on, but we are guessing an older version of Google’s mobile operating system.

Android 4.1 on the GEAK Watch should also be modified accordingly. After all, the UI has to adapt to the small display if the watch is to be usable as a standalone device. However, there is no more detailed information about the interface and which Android apps can ultimately be used on the smartwatch.

In terms of price, they are in similar regions, but at the equivalent of 246 euros (330 US dollars) the GEAK Watch is a good deal cheaper than the I´m Watch, which costs 299 euros. Nevertheless, the GEAK Watch has been on the market for a long time existing competitor superior in terms of technical data.

Here are the most important features of the GEAK Watch: 1 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB ROM and a 1.55 inch multi-touch display with a resolution of 240 × 240 pixels. In addition to WiFi 802.11 b / g / n, a 500 mAh battery, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.0, the smartwatch also has a headphone output – thanks to the VHF receiver, the GEAK watch can also be used as a radio.

In China, the GEAK Watch will be launched on the market in July; we have not yet received any information about the gadget being released.
