Google Fit (finally) displays calories burned and distance traveled

[ad_1]

Google Fit is the Mountain View giant’s mobile app that will directly compete with Apple’s Heath as well as the fitness apps currently on the market. As you can see in our guide to Google Fit, however, the functionality was still quite limited so far, erasing any hope of success for the application.

Available since October of last year, Google’s fitness app has undergone some changes, notably adding a hundred sports available. However, Google Fit was only able to measure with the sensors of the Android smartphone the number of steps, and the minutes of exercise. Then you had to manually add a little more original sports to the mobile (or web) application.

Another major flaw is the lack of a count of calories burned and the distances traveled, which are both essential measures for all mobile applications and other activity sensors. It’s now a thing of the past since society comes from officially communicate on the arrival of these two measures.

The usefulness of Google Fit, which is also available on all Android Wear smart health connected watches, was today really limited to the point that it was clearly better to go on a fitness app like MapMyFitness, Runtastic or Health Mate from Withings to measure your physical activity. It remains to be seen whether Google will succeed in attracting new customers, relatively disappointed with the design and basic features of the application.

The only small consolation prize, Google has announced that it has added a widget for its mobile application, which will allow smartphone owners to see the physical activity of the day directly on their screen (without having to open the application). A similar version is available for watches that will now have a dedicated Google Fit watchface.
