A recently approved patent reveals that Google has worked on several mechanisms for quick-opening bracelets. The patent images illustrate several options, one of which is a traditional method of quick opening with pins; while the others seem a little more complex.
February 8, 2019: New job openings suggest Google Pixel Smartwatch is still around
Two job openings at Google for a "vice president, hardware engineering, wearables" and "a wearable design manager, consumer hardware" suggest that Google continues to have high material ambitions for wearables.
January 25, 2019: Possible Pixel Watch code names appear online
9to5Google has released two code names: Medaka and Salmon. They could refer to the Google Pixel Watch. The codenames appeared in the AOSP with evidence suggesting that they were smartwatches; but no further details were provided.
January 17, 2019: Google and Fossil sign a $ 40 million agreement
Google and Fossil Group have entered into a $ 40 million contract to acquire part of Fossil’s smartwatch technology. Although details are scarce, it suggests that Google is continuing its efforts around Wear OS.

Tom’s Guide has announced that there will be no Google Pixel smartwatch in 2018. A Google spokesperson also confirmed that the company will not launch its own smartwatch in 2018.

May 10, 2018: Google's fall event to unveil a Pixel brand watch
Evan Blass tweeted that a reliable source told him "with great confidence" that a Pixel brand watch would appear at the fall 2018 event alongside the two smartphones and the second generation of Pixel Buds. Of course, that was not the case.
March 15, 2018: Google renames Android Wear to Wear OS
Google's platform, Android Wear, was unveiled in 2014. In 2018, Google abandoned the name and brand, relaunching the software under the name of Wear OS.
December 23, 2016: Google will launch two Android Wear watches in 2017
The Verge announced that Jeff Chang, product manager for Android Wear, has said that Google is planning to launch new watches that will be the flagship devices of Android Wear 2.0.
According to Jeff Chang, the device would not carry the Pixel brand, despite the launch of Pixel and Pixel XL two months earlier; thus replacing the Nexus range. Instead, the watches would take the name of the manufacturer who makes them.
