Google's OS for the Internet of Things
Brillo is the code name chosen by Google for its new operating system dedicated to the Internet of Things. This announcement comes after that of Qualcomm, Apple, and even Samsung.
Brillo would be offered under the Android brand and would be intended for low-power devices with 32 or 64 MB of RAM. Ie products like smart health connected bulbs, smart plugs and door locks, etc .; brief products in the ecosystem of a smarthome.
So Google finally seems ready to reveal its plans for the IoT market. The new operating system will provide these smart health connected devices with the ability to communicate with other nearby smart health connected devices. The idea is that this software could one day be used on absolutely everything: household appliances (like refrigerators) and even smaller devices (like a camera for example).
Currently, Brillo is just an internal Google name. Its name could change and should in any case integrate the Android brand. His name could be announced next week at the Google I / O developer conference.
But what about Nest? Tony Fadell, who created the brand, is now working at Google and on the Brillo project. Google bought Nest Labs in 2014 and then announced a developer program called "Works with Nest".
Nest isn't actually integrated with Google today. On the site of the first, the name of the second is not mentioned. So will Google keep the Nest brand separate and make it its health home automation division? Does Google want to keep the brand separate so as not to get angry with manufacturers who would use its future operating system?
Suffice to say that I will carefully scrutinize all the information that will be given on this subject at the Google I / O developer conference. Of course, you can find all this information on The health home Automation Blog. Maybe we will do a live on the site if I have time to organize this.
Case to follow!
