Google's Soli project will revolutionize wearables
The Soli project unveiled by Google will revolutionize wearables. It is a sensor that can be used in anything that can be worn on the wrist; but not only …
The Soli project is able to accurately detect the movements of your hand and fingers in real time and therefore acts as a Leap Motion. But instead of using cameras Soli uses radar technology.
Google ATAP has understood that our hands are the best way to interact with objects. Our fingers are perfect for typing on a keyboard or untangling a bunch of wires; so why not to control the objects. The founder of the project is Ivan Poupyrev. He explained that Soli can recognize small gestures and that it will be able to replace all the interfaces that we use today on our wearables; all without ever touching the screen.
Soli does have the potential to change the way we use all devices; and not just wearables. If wearables are the most obvious objects to use this technology with, because their screens are quite small, many other devices could take advantage of them. The ehealth below not only shows how the Soli project works, it also explains why Google imagined this technology.

Google ATAP plans to release a Soli API for developers so that they can build applications and hardware that can take advantage of this technology.
