how to avoid fogging on glasses?

While we all have to get used to wearing a mask in many public spaces, the formation of fogging greatly impairs visibility among spectacle wearers. Here are four tips to limit the phenomenon.

Mandatory in transport and highly recommended in shops and places draining the public, the mask is sometimes synonymous with hassle for people who wear glasses. Theair hot exhaled by the nose and the mouth rises and condenses on the glasses colder, which creates fogging and obstructs sight. Unfortunately there is no miracle recipe, but a few tips can limit fogging on glasses.

Prevent hot air from rising

This involves creating a clip at the level of the nose in order to limit the passage of hot air. Several possibilities: slightly fold the top of the mask so that it is a little tighter, insert a small clip or a metal strip in the upper edge to make it more rigid, or even fix the mask with a plaster.

Wash glasses with soapy water

Wash your pair of glasses with soap and allow them to air dry. Soap being a surfactant, it leaves a thin film on the surface of the glasses which reduces the surface tension and limits the adhesion of molecules of water. You can also try shampoo or foam to shave. However, this solution offers little more than half an hour of respite.

Place a tissue at the top of the mask

The trick is to fold a tissue horizontally in the form of a strip and insert it between the mask and the nose so that it absorbs moisture. Remember to press the top edge of the mask on the face with the glasses so that the handkerchief does not fall.

An anti-fog spray

Originally intended for swimming goggles or car windshields, the anti-fog spray works on the same principle as soap: it leaves a surfactant film on the glasses, which modifies its wetting properties. Note that some anti-UV or anti-static treated glasses reduce the effectiveness of this kind of product.

The formation of fogging is fortunately reduced when it is hot, since the temperature of the air approaches that of breathing.
