How to use multiple Amazon Echo and Echo Dots?
If you want to know how to use multiple Amazon Echo and Echo Dots distributed in your health home, this article is for you.
Using multiple Amazon Echo: configuration
First of all, to use several Amazon Echo, it will be necessary to make some configurations. Adding a new Echo to your health home is simple, following the same steps as when setting up your first device. Open the Alexa app, go to settings and choose "Set up a new device". Then follow the process as you did before. (You can get the same result with your Alexa account on a desktop computer if you prefer.)
It’s really that simple. As it connects to an existing account and it adopts the characteristics of the existing device; therefore it is not necessary to configure all the individual elements again.
Then you need to decide where to place the new device. Amazon built the Echo to be smart enough to fulfill your orders in the room. The devices use “Spatial Echo Perception,” which means that the Echo closest to you should be the one that responds.
I’ve found that if you’re somewhere between two devices it could be a problem. With one in the kitchen and the other in the living room, halfway between the two, the system can be disrupted.
Using multiple Amazon Echo: what can you do?
Multiple Echo Functions and Features
In reality, there is not much that changes to use multiple Amazon Echo. The main functionality of Alexa and Echo doesn't really change when dubbed; with synchronization between the two.
Synchronized calendars, shopping lists and to-do lists
Also, some things are synced to your Alexa account. These are therefore accessible on the various Echo devices that you may have dispersed throughout the house. Add something to your to-do list or your shopping list; it will be immediately available from anywhere.
The shopping list is convenient because it is stored in the app, so you can add items to the list through any Echo device.
Of course, things like synchronized calendars that you've set up are available on all of your Echo devices.
Music in multiple locations
Amazon added the ability to configure "groups" of devices within the Alexa app; allowing you to play music on multiple Echo devices at health home. You can play music from Spotify, Amazon Music or TuneIn radio on multiple Echos; so you can have audio synchronized in multiple places very easily.
Unfortunately, you cannot use an Echo Dot to connect to another Bluetooth speaker; while playing on a multiroom group. It also seems that you cannot have a group including an Echo Show.
You can also play music from different sources on different Echos in different rooms. But you can also ask any of your Echos to play music on other Echoes that you have.
Setting timers and alarms
Echo is ideal for setting timers and alarms, whether to wake you up in the morning or to remind you when the cooking is finished or the washing machine needs to be emptied. Now the timers and alarms are specific to the device on which they are programmed.
Bluetooth connections are separate
Bluetooth connections are treated separately and are not common between your Echo devices; which makes sense as you may not want the devices to interfere with each other or connect to a Bluetooth speaker in another room.
Household profiles and multiple accounts
In the app, you can add another Amazon user to your Household profile. A good idea to share its content (music, audio books and Google Calendar). This also allows you to benefit from the advantages linked to your Prime subscription.
You can also use it to choose who sets up Echo devices and the account to which they are assigned. You need to get other users in the house to download the Alexa app. Once the accounts are smart health connected, you can ask Alexa to switch from one profile to another to manage content, orders, etc.
Using multiple Echo devices as intercoms
Using more than one Amazon Echo in your health home also allows you to use them as intercoms in the health home. If you're using the browser or Alexa app settings, just name your devices based on the room they're in. You can then access this room remotely.
You can do this from your phone by opening the application and clicking on the "Drop in" button; then selecting the Echo you want to talk to.
It should be noted that you can also call Echo owners from your contact list using your Echo device. This will allow you to make free calls.
Distinguish users
Despite the ability to add multiple users to the account, Alexa is not yet able to distinguish users based on their voice. So you must physically tell an Echo device to switch accounts before doing so. This is particularly relevant if you place an Echo device in someone's room and want to connect it to that person's content.
