how to use the password manager?

Google has integrated a password manager in Chrome so that you can log in to your various accounts securely. If you have never used this function, ABSMARTHEALTH explains everything there is to know about it.

For Google, given the increasing number of threat that we can meet on Internet in recent years it was necessary to offer a protection effective at Passwords found on the web pages opened in Chromium. Thus, these can be administered by a manager which not only allows them to be saved securely for future uses, but also to check whether these have been compromised.

If you've never been interested in this handy Google tool, ABSMARTHEALTH shows you how to use it.

How to activate password manager on Chrome?

If you want to automatically save passwords that you enter on web pages opened in Chrome, then you will need to activate the password manager by accessing your Google account.

To do this, first launch Chrome, then click onicon "Customize and control Google Chrome" in the upper right corner of the window. A menu appears, click on "Settings".

Once in the settings, locate the "People" section, then click on "manage your Google account".

A new tab opens, go to it. On the left side of the screen, click on "Security".

Now scroll down and find the "Connect to other sites" section. Then click on "Password manager".

Once on the page titled “Password Manager”, click on the gear icon.

Now move the two sliders to the right. In this way, Google will offer to keep in memory the identifiers and passwords that you will use on websites opened in Chrome and Android, but also to connect to it automatically the next time you come back to it.

How to save your passwords?

From now on, when you try to identify yourself on a site open in Chrome, a small window will appear at the top of your Navigator and asks if you want to save your password. Click on "Save".

How do I access passwords stored by Google?

Return to the Password Manager page in your Google Account, then scroll down to see the list of all sites, or applications whose password is saved. Click on the site or application of your choice.

For each site or application, you can copy your username and password to the clipboard (by clicking on the corresponding icon), view your password (for example, if you do not remember plus and want to connect to an account from another device’s browser), modify or delete it.

How to check if a password has been stolen?

Google has also integrated into its manager a function allowing you to verify that your passwords have not been stolen.

To do this, Google compares your connection information with that contained in data base information stolen and tells you if it finds matches. To proceed with the operation, simply go to the page of the password manager, then click on "Check passwords" in the "Password check-up" box.

Click again on "Verify Passwords" on the page that appears.

The results of the analysis are displayed on the screen. As you can see in the illustration, two passwords have been stolen and can potentially be used by malicious people.

If this happens to you, you must immediately change the passwords in question. Click the arrow to see the list of sites that have been hacked.

Next to the name of the sites, click on "Change password" for each of the items in the list. You normally arrive on the health home page of the mentioned sites, connect to each of them and proceed to change your password.

Note that by clicking on the three dots next to the "Change password" button, new options are available to you. You can then display the password (and see if you use it on other sites), update it or delete it from the database (this removes it from Google, but you still have to change on the site or application from which the data was stolen).

These same options are available for passwords that you use on several different sites and insecure passwords. As you probably already know, in theory you have to create a unique and difficult to hack password for each site on which you have to identify yourself.

As a reminder, your passwords are now managed by Google. You must therefore have a password that you will not use on any other site or application. Otherwise, you risk having all of your passwords compromised if it was stolen from another site.
