How to weigh yourself properly with an impedance meter?

Impedance meter is a very special bathroom scale that requires following some basic rules in order to make it possible to obtain reliable results. What are its rules to follow? absmarthealth.com explains how to weigh yourself properly with a body impedance meter.

7 rules to know to weigh yourself properly with a body impedance meter

#1 Step on the scale barefoot

First basic rule for weigh yourself well with an impedance meter : put on the scale the barefoot. Indeed, in order for the current to pass through the body and thus analyze body composition, it is essential toremove shoes, socks or tights : feet must be completely bare otherwise the scale will not work properly.

#2 Have your feet on the center of the scale

In order for your diagnostic device to take measurements correctly, your feet have to be correctly placed on the scale. You should know that most impedance scales have four sensors, and more exactly two sensors per foot (1 for the arch of the foot and one at the heel). It is through these sensors that a very weak electric current is going to be issued for the purpose of calculating your body composition by passing through your body.

You will therefore have understood: it is necessary to have the feet well positioned on these sensors to allow the scale to function properly. While the toes may stick out of the scale, it is imperative that the heels do not stick out. If in doubt, refer to user manual for your impedance meter which will tell you the exact position of the sensors.

#3 Have thighs that don’t touch

Another rule for weighing yourself well with an impedance balance: spread legs in a way thighs do not touch. Indeed, if the thighs touch, the current will tend to return to the lower body, instead of continuing its trajectory to the upper body. The results may therefore be distorted. as they will not take upper body measurements into account.

#4 Having emptied his bladder

In order not to falsify the results of the balance, it is imperative tohave emptied their bladder before weighing. A full bladder could, indeed, add up to 1 kg more on the scale but above all it will tend to distort the calculation of body water of the organism.

#5 Avoid drinking too much before the weigh-in

Another obvious rule: avoid drinking large amounts of water or other liquids just before the weigh-in.

Note: Contrary to what one might think, the water ingested just before weighing will appear in fat mass and not at the level of body water (because the liquid will then be stored in the stomach before its assimilation).

6. Have your arms slightly apart

It is also advisable to weigh yourself with arms slightly apart – so that they do not touch each other. Just like for the thighs, this allows to do not impede the flow of light current emitted by the balance, and therefore to obtain more reliable results.

7. Weigh yourself at night!

Unlike conventional scales whose weighing must be carried out in the morning (on an empty stomach), impedance balances require weighing the evening. It is therefore advisable to weigh yourself with an impedance meter at the end of the daypreferably in the evening before having dinner and after urinating. The body thus had the whole day to hydrate itself, which won’t interfere with body composition results.

In addition to advice specific to impedance balances, it is important to always use the impedance meter under the same conditions and follow some basic rules to weigh yourself properly. For this, I invite you to read the article “How to weigh yourself well?”.
