Huawei claims more than 10 million devices on Android 10

Huawei may have lost access to Google's applications, but the powerful Chinese manufacturer continues to bet on Android, and it does not hesitate to make it known. While Android 10 has only been officially available for a few months, and only for a few weeks (beta aside) in the form offered on Huawei terminals, namely the EMUI 10 overlay, the manufacturer announced on December 20 last to have crossed the threshold of 10 million devices taking advantage of the latest version of Android. In the background, Huawei shows us that its deployment policy is voluntary and that it follows a sustained pace, to say the least, since three weeks earlier, a press release stated that one million terminals were served.

The first models to benefit from EMUI 10 were the references of the P30, Mate 30 (from the release) and Mate 20 families. They were followed in particular by their predecessors, i.e. versions of the Mate 10 and P20, quickly bringing the list of updated devices to around thirty names. Other phones have also joined the beta program and must follow suit before the end of winter, such as the Honor 8X and some variants of the Honor 20. In fact, Huawei currently appears as one of the best students in terms of software monitoring, even if not all countries are housed in the same boat.

It should however be noted that this voluntary approach is not only the result of a surge of good will or a need for communication. With the transition to EMUI 10, Huawei is laying the foundations for a functional ecosystem without Google's applications, which it no longer has the right to install by default. The development of alternatives to Google Maps, Google Drive or Gmail would also be in the pipeline to quickly enrich EMUI and App Gallery, the equivalent of the Play Store signed Huawei. Recall that the manufacturer now bases its operating system on the AOSP source of Android (open source), so that there is no risk of being deprived of the OS in the near future.
