Huawei P40, the next flagship equipped with a graphene battery?

With the end of the year approaching, rumors about the next flagships for 2020 are flourishing. According to the leaks, the Huawei P40 would have the right to an ever more efficient photo shutter and a graphene battery, more compact and enduring.

After Samsung and Apple, it is Huawei's turn to be the subject of rumors concerning its flagship for 2020. According to the twitto Yash Raj Chaudhary, whose information is often verified, the next Huawei P40 would carry some very interesting characteristics .

Regarding the slab, we would find an Oled screen of 6.5 inches "waterfall", already present on the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro. However, the refresh rate of the panel would drop to 120 Hz, like the likely Samsung Galaxy S11. This would allow for a very fluid display. Usually, a display like this is paid for with less autonomy. Indeed, this type of slab is very energy consuming.

A revolutionary battery?

But what could then be a problem on other smartphones would not really be one with the P40. It seems that the latter has a 5,500 mAh battery using graphene. This technology, long passed by the Arlesian in terms of portable power, is about to arrive in our smartphones.

As a reminder, batteries using graphene would have a longer lifespan compared to their lithium-ion cousins. They are also able to store more energy, withstand high temperatures longer and therefore charge faster. According to rumors, the P40's battery could fully recharge in 45 minutes with a 50 W charger.

Finally, they are also more compact than conventional batteries. According to the information on the P40, its graphene battery is 30% smaller than a conventional equivalent battery of the same capacity.

Last August, in this area, we reported information from Evan Blass explaining that Samsung was planning to launch a mobile phone with a graphene battery for 2021. The main brake for this type of battery would remain the price. Between research and development and materials, graphene batteries would not come without a significant additional cost.

If Huawei has successfully developed and integrated such an accumulator in its P40s, without exploding their price, the Chinese manufacturer would strike a blow on the market for portable devices.

A fivefold photo module

Regarding the photo component, Huawei would continue its partnership with the German manufacturer Leica. On the back, we could thus find a Sony IMX686 64 megapixel sensor, with a wide-angle optics, a 20 megapixel sensor and its ultra wide angle lens, a telephoto lens supported by a 12 MP sensor, a macro module and a ToF sensor. A muscular configuration, but which hardly surprises, since this kind of modules are becoming more and more frequent.
