Huawei tumbles into the French smartphone market
[ad_1]
Canalys analysts have delivered their report on smartphone sales in France in the fourth quarter of 2019. Samsung remains at the top of the ranking with 34% market share and volume growth of 8%. The South Korean company, however, lost ground to its competitors compared to the previous quarter. In the third quarter of 2019, Samsung weighed 43% of mobile sales in France. Apple, which had an excellent fourth quarter worldwide, also performed very well in France. It sold 45% more iPhone over the period compared to the previous year. The Cupertino company is close behind Samsung with a market share of 33%. The first two players in the smartphone sector in France therefore represented 2 out of 3 mobile sales at the end of last year.
Until now, Huawei has experienced a moderate decline in sales in France. The Chinese company had a very bad last financial year 2019, with a fall of 42%. Huawei's market share thus fell from 17% in the third quarter to only 11% over the last quarter of last year. The manufacturer was penalized by the very low volumes made by its Mate 30 Pro, deprived of Google services because of the embargo of the United States. Huawei has not yet managed to build a viable alternative to the Play Store and the tools that Google usually provides to Android mobile manufacturers.
Huawei: an endless fall?
If Huawei plummets, Xiaomi follows an opposite path. Indeed, the latter recorded an increase in sales of 70% in the fourth quarter and is getting closer to his compatriot. Xiaomi represents 8% of the smartphone market over the period concerned; a stable figure compared to the previous quarter. Xiaomi has attacked the market with cellphones with excellent value for money and should consider unleashing more value in 2020. It is rumored that the brand's next flagships, the Mi 10, will be launched at a lower price. higher than their predecessors. A strategy that Huawei also used in its early days. The place left by the telecoms giant opens a royal road to Xiaomi.
Finally, the last company in the French top 5 is none other than Wiko. The brand has very clearly slowed down for a few months now and represents only 7% of the French market. The drop in Wiko sales was less violent in the fourth quarter (-25%) than in the third (-43%). Since the total takeover by the Chinese manufacturer Tinno, Wiko has not been able to stop the fall in sales. The arrival of competitors like Honor, Xiaomi and Oppo on the French market weighed heavily on Wiko's results.
