IDC: the smart health connected watch market is back on the beast

[ad_1]

In its figures for the second quarter of 2018, IDC reports the good health of the smart health connected accessories market around the world. A 5% growth that benefits Apple and Huawei.

Already slightly up in the first half of 2018, the market for wearables, which one could possibly translate by smart health connected accessories, continues to progress. In its report of Tuesday, September 4, 2018, IDC unveils 27.9 million of these products were delivered worldwide in the second quarter of 2018. This represents a growth of 5.5% compared to the same period last year.

A transition to more sophisticated products

If this market of wearables integrates headphones and other objects loaded with smart health connected functions, the bulk of deliveries concerns smartwatches as well as the activity sensors. Products that appear to have reached saturation levels in Western Europe, Japan and the United States. As a result, according to IDC, the market is down 6.3% in these areas. Global growth is therefore driven by emerging markets such as Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia (excluding Japan) and Eastern Europe. Shipments increased by 14% over last year.

However, there is nothing to worry for Jitesh Ubrani, IDC analyst: "The decline in rich countries is by no means worrisomehe explains. These markets are transitioning to more sophisticated products. Consumers want, for example, more data about their health, a topic barely touched by early generations."As for Ramon Llamas, an analyst at IDC, the future of entry-level products is tempered."Sales of the most basic accessories are declining from quarter to quarter without being bound to disappearhe says. Some markets prefer simple and accessible products. It is in this niche that activity trackers and hybrid watches stand out."

Apple still in the lead, Fitbit is waiting

In the midst of these different trends, some brands continue to pull out of the game. Apple is consolidating its first place, with a 38% increase over the same period last year, bringing to 4.7 million the number of smart health connected accessories delivered during the second quarter. Behind, Xiaomi benefits from his arrival in many countries to continue his progress. The Chinese firm, offering activity sensors at aggressive prices, delivered 4.2 million units worldwide, 19.8% more than in the previous year. But the most spectacular rise is signed Huawei. The Chinese manufacturer, which has multiplied the advertisements at the IFA, grows by 118.1% from 800,000 products delivered to 1.8 million. Finally, things do not work out for Fitbit, which drops another 21.7%. The brand, however, has a plan and relies on hybrid products to stand out, Charge 3 in the lead. The big loser is Samsung, ejected from the top 5 by Garmin. In the meantime the Samsung Galaxy Watch?
