IF CREMES NO LONGER HELP….

[ad_1]

If an anti-wrinkle cream alone is no longer sufficient for a radiant and even skin, then treatments at the skin therapist offer a solution. What are the options and which treatment is right for your skin? Skin therapist Silvia Scheurwater explains.

lasers

The laser (Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation) has been used in medicine for over 40 years. The first lasers (CO2 and Argon) were quite limited and could only treat benign moles. In addition, they presented a high risk of scarring. These lasers have now been largely replaced by a finer version, the fractional laser.Silvia: we can use laser light very accurately for specific indications and only heat the skin there without the risk of damaging the surrounding tissue. This makes a laser treatment safe and effective when it comes to skin improvement. We are increasingly using the laser to rejuvenate the skin and to treat acne, rosacea and pigmentation spots.

Which lasers are most commonly used?

Silvia: There are many different laser devices. Too much to discuss in this article. And of course the developments do not stand still. Techniques are refined, resulting in better results and less downtime. The Tixel laser is the latest addition to the line: a cup of about 1 cm with small titanium pins is shot briefly against the skin. This makes very small holes in the skin through which the heat can be brought deep into the skin. The release of heat into the dermis causes collagen remodeling resulting in a firmer skin. Due to the extreme heat (approx. 1000 degrees), this device is not suitable for all skin types. We await with interest the results, measured over a somewhat longer period. For more information about laser and laser treatments, please visit the website of the NVH (Dutch Association of Skin Therapists).

In this article I limit myself to the laser devices that we use in the clinic, the fractional laser and the Harmony XL.

The fractional laser

A fractionated laser makes tiny holes in the skin, allowing the skin to recover faster. Because water in the epidermis absorbs light, old skin cells evaporate, resulting in a smooth and even skin (resurfacing). The resurfacing laser treatment is suitable for acne, wrinkles, deep pores, pits, scars and imperfections of the skin. The fractional laser introduces laser beams into the dermis (without damaging the epidermis that lies above it. The fibroblasts in the dermis are stimulated in this way to produce new collagen. Collagen ensures skin renewal and tightens the skin. a natural lift and imperfections are repaired. The result, a younger looking and firmer skin. The number of treatments depends on the condition of the skin. On average, three to six treatments are needed.

The Harmony XL Laser

The Harmony XL laser works with light that is absorbed into the skin by the pigment spots and red veins, which causes the vessel wall to stick and the rosacea stays away. This means that no skin layer is removed. This laser or IPL treatment is a good solution for red veins or vessels (couperose) and pigment spots, sun spots or discolored scars. The skin also absorbs the heat from the laser/IPL and can tighten as a result. Very dark skin or tanned skin cannot be lasered. Pigmentation spots on brown skin are better treated with peels.

Alternative treatments to laser

INUS: Radio Frequency Microneedling

The INUS is a device that combines radio frequency (RF) microneedling, generating a lot of intense heat deep in the skin. This stimulates collagen, which also causes more firming and tightening. The INUS treatment is suitable for the face, neck and décolleté, but also the area around the eyes (lower and upper eyelids) and can also be done in the summer. There is hardly any downtime. After treatment, the skin is light red and there may be some swelling for a short time. The treatment can be sensitive, so a numbing cream is applied ten minutes beforehand. For a good result (firm and even skin and reduction of wrinkles), an average of 3-6 treatments are needed.

peels

A laser treatment is not suitable for every skin. Peels are better suited for some skin types such as dark skin. For example, the Thermaderm Vitamin C peeling. This treatment provides a more vital appearance, tackles imperfections and evens the skin from the inside out. The ideal treatment against pigmentation spots, inflammation and acne, but really just for anyone who would like a smoother, more even skin. The result of a peeling is an improved and fresher skin structure. The effectiveness of a peel depends on the strength of the acid used, but several treatments are needed for a good result.Again, beautiful skin at home starts with the use of cosmeceuticals. It contains the same ingredients as in our peels, only in a slightly lower concentration. By using cosmeceuticals we achieve faster results and you retain the result longer. The skin therapist can tell you exactly which product is suitable for your skin.
