Ikea smart blinds will soon arrive in stores

Low-cost Ikea smart blinds will soon be available in stores. Their name: Fyrtur. They will be available in all Ikea stores very soon. They will then join the brand's other health home automation products on the shelves.

The Fyrtur smart blind is made of a "blackout" fabric, an opaque finish that will completely stop the sunlight. This finish is similar to that of the Tretur manual blinds that you can already find in Ikea stores. In short, no innovation in design. It's a simple technological update.

Ikea began launching health home automation products in 2017, with the launch of a full line of smart health connected lighting products. Shades are the next step in its strategy for the smart health home world.

The blinds do not require any electrical installation: they use a lithium-ion battery which can be recharged with a USB key; included in the box. You can also purchase additional batteries if you are not patient enough to wait for the batteries to recharge. The company has not provided figures on the predicted blind cycles per full charge.

According to Ikea, you can control the blinds independently or in groups, so that you can open or close all the blinds in the living room or bedroom at the same time.

To do this, you will need the supplied wireless remote control or, once paired with Tradfi, Ikea's Wi-Fi health home automation hub, any phone or tablet that supports Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Tradfri application. What we don't know is if a light sensor has been integrated. This would allow the blind to operate independently depending on the outside light; and / or interior. There is no official price yet, but in Europe the price varies from 113 to 181 dollars.
