Unboxing of the Jabra Elite 85h helmet
As usual, Jabra supplies a box with the brand’s colors. This yellow which represents it so well is once again married to gray tones for a result which always has its effect. The helmet is present from almost all angles on the different sides of the package. It is in glossy Stickers version on the main one, with the highlight of its compatibility with Amazon’s assistant, Alexa. Inside, the black oval case takes up all the space. The Elite 85h headphones are coiled inside, accompanied by the various cables and the jack adapter. This first contact is pleasant and brings hope. Jabra demonstrates his mastery and proves that he has not lost his hand. A good omen for the future.
Design and ergonomics
Second strong point of the Danish manufacturer and second success. The design is in the vein of other Jabra productions, that is to say sober and elegant. The materials used, mixture of fabric (for the parts in contact with the exterior) and imitation leather (for those in contact with the head) bring a certain nobility to the whole. Especially in her black dress with copper accents. Of a correct size, the helmet is not too big on the head. Less than 300 g on the scale, the weight remains contained and does not disturb the user, even over long sessions.
In terms of ergonomics, the Elite 85h helmet is in current standards. The ear cups can rotate within a radius of 90 °. It’s by the way that way we turn on the helmet, while everything is in listening position. To turn it off, turn it in the opposite direction and put the earcups inward. They can also be detached from the hoop to bend and take up less space. There is a notch to maintain everything, without it wandering around freely. The whole seems robust enough that the repetition of the movement does not damage the system quickly.
Jabra’s helmet has a total of 5 buttons. They are all physical and above all multitasking. Four are on the right side, while the last is on the left atrium. This is used to change listening modes and activate Active Noise Reduction (ANC). On the other hand, the same button calls the voice assistant, Alexa by default. The other three are located on the side of the headset. They are easily distinguishable thanks to small relief devices. Their activation is very simple, even if you don’t hesitate to press hard, and their intuitive functions. Thus, they allow you to change the volume, the sound track or put the playback on or pause, just like answering an incoming call.
Use of the Elite 85h
The Elite 85h helmet offers several features which make its use fluid and pleasant. First, the music turns on and off automatically when you put the headphones on or off your ears. Thus, playback resumes directly where it was stopped. However, this is not the only intelligent function integrated by Jabra. SmartSound uses artificial intelligence and headset microphones to adjust the sound moment. That is to say,it analyzes the surrounding noises to determine if the user is in public or in a quiet place. He manages to recognize traffic noises in order to switch to “on the go” mode. These modes change without having to do anything.
In theory, if that sounds interesting, it is actually more like a gadget. The goal here is to alternate between the different moments. So, unless you have a whole slew of them, each set to the millimeter, we can summarize a selection between the ANC or the HearThrough. Either isolate yourself from outside noise, or leave a passage open so as not to miss important information, in an office or similar setting. Moreover, noise reduction is effective and eliminates a good part of the parasitic sounds.
Regarding the battery, the Danish manufacturer succeeds in offering a helmet with an autonomy which greatly exceeds 30 hours. So after a full charge, you don’t have to worry about it for the next few weeks. Very good, for wireless listening in complete freedom.
Sound quality
Speaking of sound, Jabra has accustomed us to pay particular attention to the sound quality of his products. The experience offered is often fair and true to the source. The Elite 85h helmet is no exception to the rule. The sound is round, and the bass, mid and treble are well balanced. No party takes precedence over another, suffocates it or is too far behind. And if despite this, the sound does not suit the attentive ear, the application allows you to adjust, via an equalizer, the different frequencies in order to highlight one aspect more than another. For example, if you find the bass too weak and your EDM song seems too soft, just go up the bass curve and you’re good to go.
The Elite 85h supports SBC and AAC codecs. No lossless formats, which could annoy the most demanding of us. However, Jabra does not display its headphones as a very high-end product with high fidelity restitution. That is why the proposed sound is more than correct compared to the expectations that we can have.
The application
Again, Jabra’s headphones don’t need the Sound + app to operate or connect to a source. However, it would be a shame to do without it. First of all for the equalizer, but also for the other interesting functions. It is possible to record different sound profiles and use the SmartSound with. It’s the perfect companion for this helmet.

Conclusion
Jabra hits the bull’s eye once again with its Elite 85h. These over-ear headphones are comprehensive and also offers intelligent functions welcome. They make the experience more fluid and free from many constraints. As for the sound, Danish manages to master the subject with a balanced and well isolated rendering thanks to the ANC. With a price below direct competition, the Jabra Elite 85h scores a good point. It should not be difficult to seduce those who are still hesitant. In our opinion, this is a safe choice.
