Kill the King VR an immersive infiltration RPG in solo or cooperative mode

Price: 29 $ (estimate) | KTK VR Facebook Group | Quantum Lion Labs | Oculus Quest 2 at 349 $ | Setup of my Quest 2 | Good VR games plans

Last week, I introduced you to Stones Of Harlath, a single player RPG on Oculus Quest, here is another adventure game that for me offers many more possibilities both in terms of gameplay and the existence of a multiplayer mode. But you will need a PC to play it on Quest or the main PCVR headsets.

Want to Review it, tip for your Steam key offered at the end of the article.

Story and gameplay

In Kill the King, you play as a professional assassin whose mission, oh surprise, is to eliminate the king. For this, you sneak and fight in vast villages and castles. I always appreciate this mix of indoor and outdoor.

Weapons and amazing gameplay

Physics-based mechanics allow you to pick up any item to use as a weapon, protection, or climbing structure. For movements in “ninja” mode, you can hang on to vertical structures and climb everywhere. These options offer great freedom, the only limits are your wit and ingenuity.

The number of weapons is already quite impressive (swords, spears, maces, pickaxe, hammers, bows).

But the most surprising is the different possibilities to use them. For example you can pick up a pickaxe on which you can hang a seal. You can shoot an archery and get a grapple rope to climb a wall. Stronger, use your bow as horizontal as a pulley to move in zipline mode (with the string of your arrows). In addition, you can actually grab objects from any point.

The management of physics is pushed so that the percussion chain are managed. Thus, if you are hit by a ball, you will fall to the ground by overturning a barrel which itself will roll… superb coding job.

Kill the King cooperative mode

Rather rare in RPGs, Kill the King offers a cooperative mode that takes on its full meaning if the community of players responds present. Naturally, the game will be crossplay to offer the maximum number of opportunities. For this I invite you to join now the Facebook group Kill the King VR to have a francophone community.

Get together with friends or strangers from all over the world, and fight your way through villages and castles. Adapt your strategies according to your environment and the number of allies in your team.

Graphics and VR immersion

The game begins at the tavern which serves as the game’s menu, on the fun side you can move around (and have a beer). Then you go to the village with its stalls and amazing places (the giant wheel, the birdhouse tree, the game board, the fishmonger, the butcher, the blacksmith…).

In addition there is excellent management of light and very consistent drop shadows. Every object, including the stone slabs on the floor, has a shadow. So despite this Lego Land style we have a realistic immersion in the game.

Personally, I am seduced by the polygynous design which is certainly simple, but gives speed to the movements and a real playful comic style.

In addition, with the choice of reverse kinematics of the whole body, we have a very good immersion in virtual reality. In addition, the precise movement and interaction systems provide very good physical interactions.

First Notice Kill the King

For me a excellent game project that takes advantage of superb immersive gameplay in VR. But above all the addition of the multiplayer mode gives a really social dimension to this RPG. So I invite you to try this game now and join on the dedicated Facebook group to organize cooperative games.

So far, I’ve been walking around the village and it’s beautiful, you can use a bow, swords, hammers, spears, maces, or whatever passes through your hands. The background noises are present, but not yet the impacts of the weapons. Some objects like a bottle or barrels would benefit from breaking when thrown. But it all smells very, very good about the fun multiplayer RPG. And the playable release is coming soon.

As a gift, if you want to Review the beta version, go to the Kill the King Discord for get a free Steam key. Go to the “playtest-signup” group and enter “! Playtest”, you will then have to answer 3 questions from the Woodhouse bot and here you have your Steam key to download and Review the game.
