Launch of the Smartcane smart health connected rod

The start-up Nov’in and the company Cannes Fayet have launched a smart cane to watch over its user and prevent falls: Smartcane. Discovery.

In 2015, a study by senior companies * indicated that seniors wanted to use smart health connected objects for the following reasons: to report a problem more quickly (73%), to reassure themselves and their loved ones. This same survey pointed out that the fall was a major cause of death among this population. Thus, 30% of people over 65 fell at least once a year.

In this context, the Saint-Etienne start-up Nov’in and the century-old company Cannes Fayet® have developed an intelligent walking stick that watches over its user 24 hours a day and alerts their loved ones in the event of distress.

The SMARTCANE is the first smart health connected walking cane integrating the most successful family assistance on the market, developed as a real aid to the person aimed at reassuring the user but also their loved ones. Coming from the collaboration of two French companies, this everyday object offers a safe and simple solution to anyone wishing to maintain daily autonomy.

"Dring", a concentrate of artificial intelligence

This smart health connected cane incorporates the “Dring” device thanks to a plug ingeniously integrated into the walking stick. It is with this exclusive technology developed by Nov’in that caregivers are alerted to abnormal situations. In fact, motion sensors and algorithms can detect abnormal situations using artificial intelligence technology.

In addition, with simple activation and very intuitive use, getting started is quick and poses no constraints for caregivers. Manual alert, fall detection or abnormal inactivity reporting… the SMARTCANE offers complete protection to its user while reassuring those close to him. "Dring" technology works everywhere, at health home but also outdoors. The user thus has real freedom of movement.

With 24-hour monitoring, voice calls or sms in the event of an alert, a customer service based in France, the associated service reassures the user and his carers. "Dring" supports the user for the activation of the cane by telephone or on the Internet and ensures the correct configuration of the cane. “Dring” diagnoses and checks the proper functioning of the SMARTCANE every day. The service signals by SMS or voice call when the battery needs to be recharged. During an emergency, the caregiver is contacted by phone and an SMS is sent to indicate the location of the user.

"A dozen people mobilized and 3 years of research and development were necessary to arrive at high-performance fall algorithms based on artificial intelligence. Over the use of the cane, these algorithms allow in particular to detect drops in activity and thus alert the main caregiver, but also to identify a simple involuntary fall of the cane from a real fall in the person. In addition, we offer a "turnkey" service with a subscription that accompanies the user and their caregivers on a daily basis and no constraints in the use of SMARTCANE . We take care of everything and guarantee the proper functioning of the rod and the "Dring" plug ”Says Vincent Gauchard, co-founder of NOV’IN.
