Liftware, the smart health connected spoon for Parkinson's
A smart health connected spoon that self-stabilizes to allow people with Parkinson's disease to minimize the effects of their tremors during meals.
The liftware spoon
This spoon was developed by LiftLabs, a start-up specializing in smart health connected objects for patients with Parkinson. Acquired by Google X, this stabilizer can be coupled to the teaspoon, the tablespoon or the fork sold by the company. It is already working on the same system for a knife.
This spoon has a electronic handle that works like a stabilizer to allow an almost normal meal, without spilling food. For this, the handle is equipped with sensors and mini-motors which encourage the automatic rebalancing by repositioning the spoon in the opposite direction to the movement of the hand. So, 70% tremors would be controlled thanks to liftware.
Note that this spoon distinguishes between tremors due to illness and natural hand movements.
The battery is expected to last several days and this recharging from the mains.
The Lift Pulse app
The spoon allows connection via Bluetooth to the application that goes then measure the frequency and amplitude of tremors in order to adapt to it better afterwards.
This stabilizer is already on sale for the price of $ 295, 237 euros. For the anecdote, the developers make the comparison on the meals of a year. That’s the equivalent of 27 ¢, 22 cents a meal for a year.
The teaspoon, the tablespoon and the fork are sold separately priced at $ 19.95 each, or 16 euros per unit.
A smart health smart health connected object to say the least useful. The recipients are very targeted but a cooperation with Google X allows this luxury to be granted, especially since the dialogue has been opened between health professionals and product developers to encourage sales.
