Depending on the sport you practice, listening to music can be more annoying than relaxing. Between headphones that do not hold, the wires that hinder movement, and having to use your laptop or MP3 to change songs, it can quickly become a hassle. With S-tone, the Grenoble-based company Sport-Tone invites you to listen to music … with glasses!

S-tone: another way to listen to music

Headphones for use in sports are now legion on the market. Indeed, the manufacturers have understood thata very large number of people liked being able to listen to music while playing their sport favorite.

Problem: they can be uncomfortable, have a bad behavior, and especially you keep you from focusing on your surroundings when you are outdoors, for example running or cycling.

S-tone offers a solution that is both original and innovative by choosing a totally different approach to the problem. It is indeed a pair of glasses. What does this have to do with music? This is able to reach your eardrums by what is called bone conduction. Without headphones and wireless, athletes can enjoy maximum freedom and security while enjoying their favorite tunes.

Bone conduction as an alternative

It exists different ways to optimize sound quality through bone conduction. First, by choosing the right materials that will improve the frequency field and increase the decibels. For example, lightweight material will offer a much wider resonance spectrum.

Then, by adapting the contact area between the transducer (the device that transmits sound by bone conduction) and the user's head. This is why the team behind the project chose to give the S-tone an electronic band on the back of the skull which has four transducers and amplifiers making them more powerful.

The principle of bone conduction is to keep the transducers against the skull of the user, this band was therefore made with flexible and comfortable materials to adapt to all body types.

In addition, the foam placed at the eyebrows and nose allows to give a optimal comfort glasses. These also benefit from a total UV protection and anti-fog treatment.

A multifunctional product

In the case of cycling, it is very important to stay aware of the world around you. Thanks to the S-tone, in addition to having free ears, you can change music and manage volume without having to touch your laptop.

In order to make S-tone usable in all circumstances, they can be used both in Bluetooth and in MP3. In fact, swimmers will rather tend to choose MP3 because of the range of Bluetooth which does not necessarily reach the user underwater. On the other hand, cyclists and runners often prefer Bluetooth which avoids cluttering up with wires.

S-tone are currently being funded on the participative Kickstarter platform. With € 20,818 raised, they reached a third of their goal. You can still help with the birth of this project which, it is worth mentioning, is 100% French !
