Luxury Home Furnishings and Home Decor Stores Are Key to Gen Z in China
Only one month has passed since Louis Vuitton opened its first Chinese restaurant in Chengdu, China. It is an official UNESCO food city and the capital of southwest Sichuan. The conglomerate is determined to go further, by testing its first luxury furniture and decoration store in the metropolis of Shanghai.
The new facility was announced Nov. 25 at a century-old, three-story mansion near Nanjing Road. It has been open to the public since November 28.

The label will be used to promote the furniture and interior design spaces to wealthy Chinese citizens. According to Louis Vuitton, the showcase will first be used as a temporary store before being transformed into a permanent exhibition space.

A Louis Vuitton staff member revealed that a brightly colored cocoon-shaped chair, created by the Campana brothers, sold for more than 700,000 RMB ($97,641.94), while a lamp in the shape of of milk bottle with leather straps is estimated at 10,500 RMB ($1,464.63).
The exhibition space features creations by Frank Chou, who is the first Chinese designer the luxury brand collaborated on for its Objet Nomades Homeware collection. It’s an extra effort to create a family atmosphere that resonates with local customers.
American luxury brand Ralph Lauren has taken a similar approach. In July, it opened its first restaurant and bar in the Asia-Pacific region in Chengdu Taikoo Li. Today, the Shanghai Jiuguang Center hosted the first Ralph Lauren Home store on the mainland. It is the largest shopping complex in Jing’an District, in the north of the city.
The space showcases a variety of luxury home furnishings and decor items, including bath towels and bedding, as well as home accessories and decor. It is designed to be “a home away from home” and a comfortable place for active city dwellers who live the Ralph Lauren lifestyle.

Young Chinese Generation Z very interested in luxury decoration
Luxury brands have reacted quickly to the changing attitudes of the younger generation. Bobby Verghese, a consumer analyst from GlobalData, commented on the opening of Louis Vuitton in Shanghai. He said LVMH is trying to reposition itself as a modern luxury brand by exploring new avenues that appeal to young Chinese millennials and Gen Zers.
