MCW 2017: main health announcements

In 2016 Nokia bought the smart health connected health start-up Withings. Consequences: the range of smart health connected health objects will change its name. The products will gradually be renamed Nokia from summer 2017, the Finnish company announced at MWC 2017. All the products in the range, smart health connected scales, thermometers, smart health watch, blood pressure monitoring, will adopt the Nokia brand. This name change will be accompanied by a redesign of the application allowing to control Withings objects: renamed "Nokia Healthcare Mate", it will benefit from new functionalities and an improved design. "We are targeting the health market and not the fitness market for geeks"Said Rajeev Suri, CEO of Nokia. Withings-Nokia is taking advantage of MWC 2017 to present a platform for doctors, the "Patient care platform", which will allow healthcare professionals to remotely monitoring patients equipped with smart health connected objects.

Samsung’s C-Lab division presented Relúmino to MCW, which works to help people with vision problems related to macular degeneration. The system uses a GearVR and an application developed for the occasion which increases the contrast and corrects distortions in real time from the image captured by the camera of the smartphone inserted in the helmet. The application improves and transforms this content to adapt it to the needs of the visually impaired. Relúmino is able, among other things, to move images so that they are not subject to blind spots, or so that they are less obstructed. The app also corrects images for those with metamorphopsia. Next objective: creation of hardware to replace the GearVR, which remains too bulky and too heavy to carry for long periods.

Doro, the world leader in the telephone market for seniors, took advantage of the Mobile World Congress 2017 to unveil its latest product: the Doro 6050. This new model offers a particularly large screen for this type of telephone as well as a more intuitive interface, specially redesigned for even easier handling. Seniors prefer easy-to-use devices where features like texting and calling are readily available. To meet these expectations, the Swedish company created the Doro 6050 with a large screen size, highly contrasting keys and an adjustment of the font size bringing more comfort and readability. Valérie Olek, EMEA Commercial Director, explains: “The Doro 6050 will bring seniors a new experience thanks to its ultra-intuitive menu. Its redesigned interface, clearer and easier to use, will allow the elderly to acquire independence and freedom! "

There are more and more smart health connected watches on the market, which can be classified into two categories: those with a touch screen, and those with hands. MyKronoz announced at MCW the launch of the ZeTime, a watch that would combine this dual display mode. For health monitoring, this watch offers a heart sensor, activity monitoring (steps, distance, calories, activity time) and sleep, with a display of notifications on your smartphone.

At the Barcelona fair Acer presented the "Air monitoring", a sensor capable, among other things, of monitoring the air quality in his health home. "Studies show that people spend around 90% of their time indoors, whether at health home or at work. So we want to give them information on which they can act to make better choices. ” says Wayne Ma, Acer IoT manager. The sensors are able to monitoring the levels of toxic volatile organic compounds, carbon dioxide, PM2.5, PM10, temperature and humidity. An LED system indicates whether the air quality is good or whether to react. The Acer Air monitoring should arrive on the market between May and June 2017.
