Meyko, a little companion who will take care of asthmatic children

[ad_1]

Asthma is one of the most common chronic illnesses in children. To treat this condition, there are drugs to take in a crisis, but the important thing to minimize complications and improve the child's condition is to take funds. Unfortunately, some young patients do not take their medication correctly, they forget easily. A Nantes start-up has developed Meyko, a small smart health connected animal that will live at the child's pace and support him in monitoring his treatment.

This is not the first time that we have presented a smart health smart health connected object for people with asthma. For example, there is the Wing, which helps anticipate asthma attacks. In the field of smart health connected health, there are many objects intended for children and Meyko should soon be part of it.. Meyko was developed especially for children with asthma. In France 10% of children would be affected by this condition and the disease is believed to be responsible for 600,000 hospital days. This little blue smart health connected animal will accompany the child in taking his treatment. Thus making taking drugs more fun while dramatizing the disease.

Meyko to motivate children to take treatment

50% of asthma treatments would not be taken correctly by young patients. It was on this basis that two young women, Sandrine Bender and Alizée Gottardo, had the idea of creating this companion for asthmatic children. " Meyko’s goal is to play down the disease, improve adherence to daily treatment and make the child independent “Says Ms. Bender, co-founder of Meyko.

Meyko will follow the child's rhythm, waking up and falling asleep at the same time as him. Meyko's mood will depend on the child's taking treatment. Thus, his face will display a sad bet if the child has not taken his medicine. On the contrary, he will wear a pretty smile if he is up to date with his treatment. An emotional relationship will therefore be created between the child and his blue companion. Before taking his treatment, the young patient must present it to Meyko who will recognize him with a tag. So when the child takes care of himself by following his treatment well, he takes care of his smart health connected companion at the same time. " The objective is not to operate a strict control of the medication but to motivate the child to take it Says Sandrine Bender.

Data sent in an application

Meyko is associated with an application for parents of young patients so that they can still check that the treatment is being followed. Adults will therefore be able to monitoring their intake daily and over a longer period of time to confirm compliance with the treatment. These data will also facilitate treatment by the attending physician. In addition, the app provides prevention tips.

The start-up's objective is to market Meyko at the end of 2017. It intends to call on a crowdfunding campaign to launch a first series of its product.
