Midwifery teleconsultation proceedings

The health crisis in our country has prompted the authorities to make telemedicine more flexible by decree. After having been asked many times by the National Council of the Order of Midwives, the Ministry of Solidarity and Health has just given its agreement so that midwives can also carry out teleconsultation acts.

The decree of March 19: measures relating to Covid-19

Indeed, the decree considers that telemedicine allows both:

  • provide medical and nursing care at health home for patients with symptoms of infection or recognized as having covid-19;

  • protect healthcare professionals from infection and the patients they care for.

The midwives ensuring the medical follow-up of pregnant women, considered as people at risk, the decree makes it possible to protect them thanks to teleconsultation acts.

These acts are valued up to a simple teleconsultation: TCG code at a rate of 25 €.

Teleconsultation for monitoring midwives.

Thanks to teleconsultation, midwives can more easily respond to the requests of their patients, pregnant or with a newborn, while protecting them. They can stay at health home and limit contact with outside people as much as possible.

Teleconsultation allows young or expectant mothers to obtain precise and quality answers and thus be reassured. For the most anxious, pregnancy can already be a source of stress or questions. The fact of not feeling alone at health home and of being able to speak easily to their usual midwife is therefore a great comfort.

Midwives can thus adapt their practice and monitoring their patient. Faced with the Covid-19 epidemic, telemedicine allows them, like many other practitioners, to maintain their activity as well as possible while protecting themselves and their patients.
