ModEst: fall prevention by rollator sensors

[ad_1]

ModEst detects postural errors in real time

Behind the name ModEst is a rollator module for posture detection and fall prevention, which can be installed directly into the frame of rollators. Distance sensors with integrated software-based analysis algorithms detect malpositions and activate sensory feedback as needed. Concretely, this means that the sensors check in real time how far certain parts of the body are from the walking assistant and evaluate the collected information in comparison to a preprogrammed ideal posture. Before the rollator can tip over, it corrects awkward or even dangerous behaviors through a sensory impulse. In addition, the information gathered under strict privacy criteria helps physicians assess therapy progress better.

Smart rollators as help for dementia patients

Older or elderly seniors often have difficulty with their short-term memory and sometimes forget newly learned behavioral rules. Therefore, the ModEst module to bring them by subtle sensory signals to incidentally improve their attitude involuntarily. The distance sensors on the rollator are also to be used in the Ambient-Assisted-Living area in order to ensure that older people are as independent as possible.
