Moov, a sensor that analyzes swimming, cycling and weight training

Created by an Apple alumnus, the Moov allows you to both follow a range of different sports and coach you to improve your gestures. This sensor has real potential. Presentation.

For the past two years, physical activity sensors have been invading the market. They can detect your steps, calories burned, distance traveled, etc. The Moov wants to go further and analyze the quality of your movements thanks to its 9-axis accelerometer. The goal is toavoid injury and improve your technique.

When you run, it analyzes the shape of your stride and gives you directions to improve it. When you do a weight training session, it detects repetitions poorly performed and will not take into account. At each session, you set yourself goals (improve form, pace, etc.), and the Moov helps you reach them. The sensor is waterproof, so you can use it in the pool.

The sensor can attach to objects such as bicycle pedals or the golf club. You can wear it as a bracelet, armband or necklace, depending on the activity you’d like to track.

Moov has already developed five applications dedicated to running, swimming, biking, strength training, and boxing. Golf and yoga will be available right after the launch, scheduled for July 2014. The Moov will be iPhone compatible (from 4s), Android applications will arrive in the fall. Moov agrees that each app created internally is free.

The launch of the SDK is planned at the same time as that of the sensor. Third-party developers will be able to create sports apps but the Automation also seems a possibility as you will see in the presentation ehealth.

The battery will last two weeks if you exercise for four hours a day.
