Motiv's new smart ring can unlock your accounts
Motiv, one of the few companies to prove that there are good smart rings, has unveiled its second generation smart ring; who add safety skills to their fitness tracking system.
The new Motiv smart ring still has the same sleep and activity tracking sensors; and offers a three-day autonomy. Also, its new features are intended to make you more secure when you are online.
So how does he do this? Motiv added two-factor authentication. This means that you can use your smart ring as a secondary means to unlock accounts; like your Facebook account for example. First you need to connect your Motiv ring to your PC or Mac, and then link it as two-factor authentication to the web service you are using. Then you can do a quick gesture – turn your hand over – to add an extra layer of security. It works with Facebook, Amazon, Google, Reddit, Twitter, Skype, Slack, etc.
There is also support for FIDO + WebAuthn, in order to completely bypass password connections. Last and perhaps most interesting: the WalkID. WalkID uses your unique walking style or gait as an additional layer of online protection.
Okay, well, these aren't the most exciting new additions if you focus on fitness; but it’s nice to see the Motiv team looking to integrate even more functionality into a fairly harmless device. There are also some visual changes to be expected with three new finishes that now include rose gold, black and silver.
For those who already wear a Motiv smart ring, know that these new security features will also be available via a software update.
In terms of price, the new Motiv ring will cost the same price; or 199 dollars. It is available on the brand's website.
