Muse 2 – The smart health connected headband that helps with meditation

Muse has just unveiled Muse 2, a new smart health connected headband dedicated to meditation. It is a portable electroencephalograph (EEG) device that tracks brain waves to help guide you into a state of meditation.

Muse 2 follows on from Muse’s first banner launched in 2014 which converted the EEG signal into sounds that reflect your brain’s condition in real time. The idea was that the smart health connected headband would help you reach a state of deep relaxation; but for some people, auditory cues were not enough to "disconnect" from the outside world.

So this time, the banner is equipped with other forms of real-time feedback to eliminate the guesswork of meditation. In addition to using the same climate-related sounds, the Muse 2 also tracks body movements; as well as respiration and heart rate. Now you’ll get audio feedback to let you know if you’re moving too much.

The pulse oximeter can now track your heart rate. Finally, the breathing function uses movements and heart rhythms to follow and guide your breathing technique. These will be available as individual programs; but Muse has announced its intention to eventually deploy a functionality integrating multiple functionalities.

"The critical realization was that some people's minds were just super chaotic," said Muse co-founder. "If you have a neurofeedback device and they need to calm down to meditate, and you can't do it right away, it's super frustrating. "

Earlier this year, Muse acquired Meditation Studio, an application offering guided meditation sessions. These will also be available to Muse users.

Muse 2 costs $ 249 and is available starting today, with all of the app's features included; but the company will later offer a paid option. It will include the ability to combine feedback functionality.

The technology behind Muse is quite robust. Neurofeedback has been used in the mental health field for over ten years. Its technology has also been used in neuroscience research.
