MWC 2016 – Sony disappoints with its smart health connected objects
Present at MWC 2016, Sony presented its "vision" for the Internet of Things. A vision that personally disappointed me so much the brand seems to lack ideas, inspiration and originality.
MWC 2016 is normally the occasion to shine for all the biggest high-tech brands in the world. Unfortunately, in presenting its vision for the future with its Xperia range, Sony has only succeeded in disappointing. The brand presented us with three products: Xperia Agent, Xperia Projector and Xperia Eye.
The Xperia Agent is a personal assistant working with voice and gesture commands. This is clearly a pale response to the excellent Amazon Echo. Here, rather than responding by speaking to you, the Xperia Agent will project information onto a table. Not necessarily better … especially if you are not near the device. The stand-out function is an animated head that houses a camera and a ridiculously adorable face. It feels like seeing Eve from the movie Wall-E. Also not much idea …
Now let's go to the Xperia Projector. This interactive projector can project a slightly palatable image from a short distance. according to the brand, you'll be able to interact with it with voice, touch and gestures. The Xperia Projector will use lasers to detect your interactions.
Finally, the Xperia Eye is a smart health connected camera offering an ultra-wide-angle "360 degrees" lens. It is also able to detect faces and voices to film intelligently. For the moment, the Xperia Eye seems to be only a concept since it was impossible for us to Review it on the brand's stand at MWC 2016.
So this is Sony's vision for smart health connected objects. Nothing exciting you will agree. Hopefully the brand has other ideas in its boxes because at the moment, it is struggling to convince the majority of professionals in the sector that I could meet at MWC 2016.
