My UV Patch – L'Oréal the 1st sensor that detects UV rays

L'Oréal has just unveiled My UV Patch, the first stretch sensor capable of detecting UV rays.

My UV Patch is sold is sold by one of the brands of the cosmetics giant: La Roche-Posay. It was developed with the company PCH; a company which notably worked on the Ringly ring. The goal here is simple, to create better awareness of skin protection and the dangers of staying too long in the sun.

My UV Patch L'Oréal UV sensor

The stretchable heart-shaped sensor measures 6.45 cm² and measures 50 micrometers thick; thinner than a strand of hair. You can wear it anywhere on your body, but you may want to wear it on your hand or wrist. It can be worn in the shower or while swimming and can stay on the skin for five days before needing to be changed.

This smart health connected patch works thanks to a series of photosensitive dyes. It therefore changes color when exposed to UV rays. With your smartphone, you can take a photo and upload it to the iOS or Android My UV Patch app. This image is then analyzed to detect the UV levels to which you have been exposed.

Obviously, detecting UV rays using wearables is not new. The Microsoft Band 2 or the Honor Band A1 are also equipped with a UV sensor. The L’Oréal solution has the advantage of being extremely simple and discreet.

Under this product you are interested in, you can get one when you buy sunscreen on the La Roche-Posay website. To conclude, L’Oréal has already confirmed that it intends to launch 10 other wearables. Other smart health connected innovations should therefore emerge fairly quickly in the world of cosmetics.
