Naked Labs unveils its smart 3D scanning mirror!

Naked Labs, a start-up based in San Francisco, has just marketed a smart 3D scanning mirror with rotating scale. One more element to add to your health home automation installation!

The Naked Labs smart mirror obviously works with a mobile application to build 3D models of your body; and therefore allows you to follow the evolution of your body mass.

The system is actually made up of three elements. The first is the smart mirror, which has three integrated Intel RealSense depth sensors capable of scanning three-dimensional objects. There is also an integrated alignment laser to help you get the perfect pose every time; and a processor capable of collecting 4 GB of data each scan.

The second part is a rotary balance that works on hard or carpeted floors. It has a built-in battery and charges on the mirror, which plugs into the wall. To use it, just step on it, strike a pose and turn gently for 15 seconds when the mirror examines every inch of your body.

Finally, the third part is obviously the smartphone application. The Naked system will take measurements of the circumference of your neck, shoulders, chest, arms, waist, belly, hips, thighs, mid thighs and calves. Then he will use them to measure your body fat percentage, body fat, lean mass and weight; to provide you with a full set of metrics to assess your overall health and progress.

The main issues we can see is one: that these body models are extremely detailed, which means that you probably won't want to share them with your friends. Second problem: these extremely detailed 3D images of your body will be stored in the cloud; hope the Naked Labs cloud is particularly secure.

On the other hand, this machine could eventually become a must have for manufacturers of custom clothing; who could work with an incredibly consistent set of body measurements. Toy manufacturers may also be interested in creating custom figures.
