Nest Cam IQ – A smarter smart health connected camera

After being very discreet, Nest officially unveiled its new interior security camera: the Nest Cam IQ. As a reminder, the company Alphabet launched its first smart camera in 2015 following the acquisition of DropCam. Then followed a smart health connected outdoor camera.

Besides, the design of the Nest Cam IQ seems to have been inspired by that of the Nest Cam Outdoor. The dark shell gives way to a white polycarbonate body. We also recognize the design of the brand's thermostats.

Using a 4K image sensor with Qualcomm CPU power performance, this small smart health connected camera offers 1080p HD ehealth. It also has a 12x digital zoom and a pair of 940nm infrared lights to operate at night or in a dark environment. The Nest Cam IQ also has a set of three microphones. Finally, thanks to its integrated security, it protects streaming videos and stored images.

But then, how is she smarter? The main point is the introduction of facial recognition technology capable of differentiating family members and strangers, by sending alerts when someone comes health home. Thanks to Supersight, the camera has a 130-degree field of view and close-up tracking of the person in the room where the camera is installed. There are also intelligent audio alerts. These new alerts will be integrated into the old Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor that have a Nest Aware subscription.

Nest Aware also offers some extras such as 10 or 30 day ehealth history and features such as alerts when someone is in the camera's field of view and sends a notification with an enlarged photo to the app Nest.

The Nest Cam IQ is available for pre-order on the brand's website for 349 euros. Expeditions are expected to begin in four to five weeks.
