Nest patents smart bed for baby

Nest, Alphabet's subsidiary that develops smart health connected devices, is well known for its successful products like the Nest Learning Thermostat. According to a patent filed in 2014 and updated on Thursday, the company could however embark on a brand new market … The smart health connected baby beds: you had to think about it!

The bed would have many innovative features, a algorithm able to detect why a newborn is crying (if he is hungry, if he wants to be changed) to a baby monitoring and an infrared camera integrated to be alerted of any abnormal event. With that, the device could also entertain your offspring by showing cartoons on a wall using video material arranged in its structure or at a microphone able to diffuse relaxing lullabies.

The health of the baby is not left out: we could indeed rely on a sensor that can detect if the temperature the room is too hot or too cold (pair with a Nest Thermostat!) and another alerting parents when waking up impromptu. Finally, a last would know immediately if worries are declared: of the simple cough, sneezing, and even fever.

The only downside of this project – which is also the main defect of wearables but with much more impact here because we speak of babies-: the cohabitation of the infant with an environment where circulate networks such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, already known for their adverse effects on human health. Fortunately, no doubt that future generations will no longer have to ask the question of this problem, since born in an ultra-smart health connected world.

It will be recalled that a deposit of patent in no way signifies an intention to commercialize such a technology, or even to design it. But the idea remains ingenious and would fit perfectly in a smarthome, so we hope to see it materialize as soon as possible!
