NFC Ring – The 2nd generation of the smart health connected ring is here!
The second generation of the NFC Ring smart health connected ring is back on Kickstarter. Two years after raising 212,000 pounds for its first NFC ring, the company is trying to raise 57,000 pounds this time.
The NFC Ring 2 offers a new design, better range and more storage. Its designers take advantage of technological advances made in near-field communication. The ring antenna has therefore been redesigned and offers a thinner product. As I told you, the storage has been increased. It is now 888 bytes to allow users more complex data; such as encryption keys or vCard contact information.
The new model will be made from shiny black ceramic. The NFC overlay will be invisible and look like some kind of weave. The ring will measure approximately 8mm in width. Several models are available but the one in black with this small weaving is the Eclipse model. The new models will only be released if the crowdfunding campaign achieves certain objectives. These models will offer different models of marquetry, larger rings and a white version.
The NFC Ring is equipped with a pair of NXP semiconductors with NTAG216 NFC integrated circuits. Users can unlock their smartphones, open or close a digital lock, and even start a car. It is compatible with Raspberry Pi and Arduino; high-tech do-it-yourselfers have plenty of fun to personalize the ring and its NFC chip. The ring is waterproof up to 50 meters and its size varies from 4.5 to 16. Obviously, it is compatible with devices running Android, Windows 8 and Linux / Unix.
If you hurry, you can order it from 18 pounds on Kickstarter and be delivered in December 2015. Look:
