Nokia 2.3: from the AI in a smartphone to 129 €

[ad_1]

Nokia continues to chart its course under the leadership of HMD and announces an entry-level smartphone, the 2.3. His strengths ? His big battery, his camera doped with AI, the presence of Android One and of course its price, less than 130 €.

Since HMD took over the operation of the Nokia license for smartphones, the Finnish brand is doing pretty well. However, the arrival of Xiaomi could cause him some problems, especially on the entry level, where Nokia is very present. With the 2.3, it is the affordable segment of the market that attacks Nokia. The mobile will be proposed, from January 6, 2020, priced at € 129.90.

As often, Nokia is building on its strengths to win. The 2.3 is expanding the range, with a screen that now reaches 6.2 inches (15.75 cm) diagonally. The definition remains modest, with 1,520 x 720 px, on an LCD panel. Not enough to take off the resolution, which stagnates at 271 dpi. Just correct for uses requiring a little precision on the screen.

Externally, the Nokia 2.3 is content with expected guns, but the finishes at Nokia are a strong point for a long time, and this, from the top of the range to the bottom. No fingerprint reader to put under the finger, here we must deal only with the good old methods of locking or use facial recognition. Note however that smartphones sold in the same price range are all or almost free of fingerprint. Note also that the 2.3 has a button dedicated to Google Assistant.

A modest configuration

Without much surprise, the 2.3 should not be a lightning war. It ships a 4-core MediaTek Helio A22 SoC, which will probably not sparkle. We had already crossed this platform in the Xiaomi Redmi 6A and it had been rather honest for the basic uses. The Nokia 2.3 can also count on 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The latter can be extended thanks to the presence of a microSD port.

One of the sectors in which entry-level mobiles still have a good margin for improvement remains the photo. Here, Nokia protects its terminal with 2 photo modules on the back. One with a 13 megapixel sensor and optically aperture f / 2.2, the other in 2 megapixel sensor used for depth of field measurements. At the front, the selfies are provided by a sensor of 5 Mpx, whose optics is shown in a notch in drop of water at the top of the screen. Nokia boasts a photo of the benefits of its AI, especially for low-light performance.

3 years of insured updates

Another great strength of Nokia smartphones: the use of Android One. A Google program that ensures software purity and especially a follow-up over several years for updates. The Nokia 2.3 is guaranteed to be kept up to date for 3 years, which too few smartphones – all ranges – can boast. With its relatively modest configuration and its bare-bones, the Nokia 2.3 should enjoy a good battery life with its 4000 mAh battery.

The rest of the Nokia 2.3 features are expected. We find Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 – still rare on the entry level – a micro-USB port or a mini-jack 3.5 mm.
