OmniFob – A smart health smart health connected object to do without your objects
The OmniFob is a universal remote control for your keychain. This versatile device is more than just a key tracking system that can open your garage door or send an SOS. It can integrate with your health home automation systems and even start and lock your car.
Many of us already use certain aspects of the Internet of Things (IoT) or machine to machine (M2M) in our daily lives. One of the problems with this interconnected feature is that it usually requires smartphone apps; or separate smart controllers for each application.
OmniFob wants to simplify your life
But the situation can quickly become complicated. So there is a market for voice assistants and smart buttons like Flic and Logitech’s Pop. Devices that group everything, or at least some of them. But smart buttons aren't perfect, while some are portable, they usually only do a handful of tasks. And voice assistants aren't always practical when you're on the go.
There are also a number of Smart health home aggregator platforms such as Samsung's SmartThings, Apple's Yonomi and HomeKit. They bring together dozens of health home automation devices and systems in a single ecosystem. To use them, however, you must use your phone, search and launch the application, and then choose the desired function. It's still surprisingly cool, but for some common tasks, it could be really simpler.
This is where the OmniFob comes in. Designed by the team behind the multi-tool and modular Keyport keychain, the OmniFob bridges the gap between the concepts of smart button application and aggregator. OmniFob works directly with NEXX Garage, Chipolo (tracking / SOS) and MoboKey (for the car) and integrates with a number of IoT and Smart health home systems. It also works with the above aggregators; such as Samsung SmartThings and Yonomi.
Perhaps the most interesting application of OmniFob is the ability to open, lock, start and stop your car using your OmniFob.
A kind of universal remote control
Before everyone gets too excited, it's important to remember that OmniFob is an intermediary between your IoT devices and services. It’s like a universal remote control. Which means you can put most of your other remote IoT applications in a virtual drawer; and that this IoT functionality is at hand in a small, practical, compact and very intelligent device.
OmniFob can learn hundreds of tasks. All can be activated with one hand. And it's not just simple tasks. With a specific click or a sequence of clicks (and even a shake), a predetermined set of instructions can be executed at once, for example, dimming the lights, turning on the stereo and turning on the fireplace when your appointment is coming. Aggregation applications call these grouped instruction scenes (Samsung SmartThings) or routines (Yonomi).
Pre-orders on Kickstarter start at $ 91, with Lifetime Premium access (unlimited connections and no annual fee), OmniFob Smart Remote module and Keyport Anywhere Pocket clip. If all goes according to plan, delivery should start in February 2020.
