Oppo Watch ECG review -first smartwatch under Wear Os with electrocardiogram
Oppo Watch ECG is the first Wear OS watch with ECG ECG, the real competitor of the Apple Watch for Android.
Price: from 249 € (with ECG) | Oppo (China, founded in 2004)
While the market for connected watches for monitoring health with ECG is booming, watches under the Wear Os operating system were absent. Since the start of the 2020 school year, we have seen new models arriving with ECG coming out:The new Apple Watch 6 (429 – 829 €),Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 (from € 429),The Fitbit Sense (€ 329.95),La Française Withings Scanwatch (€ 279),or the affordable Move ECG at 129 €.
The Chinese giant has just announced the release of the first smartwatch under Wear Os with an ECG sensor. It’s funny to note that it was only a few days after the announcement of the Apple Watch 6, which also added the ECG, that Oppo reacted with this update.
Oppo Watch ECG Design
The new version continues the styling of the original model which has the very familiar look and feel of the Apple Watch. Note a nice different aesthetic in favor of the Oppo Watch which is its curved screen.
On the other hand, the Chinese still uses these 2 buttons on the right for navigation in addition to the touch screen, instead of the elegant Apple crown. The bottom button has a subtle green accent to add character. By default, it launches the fitness suite, but its function can also be customized. We miss the crowns and rotating bezels that some of its competitors offer, but the otherwise fast interface makes up for it.
The watch is offered in two case sizes 41 and 46 mm. The frame is made of an aluminum alloy, although only the 46mm model comes with a ceramic backplate.

Cocorico, the eSIM is made in Thales
The eSIM embedded in the Oppo Watch, the brand’s top-of-the-range, is produced by the French company Thales. The chip has been approved by the three Chinese mobile operators, so it should be the same for French operators by October 24, 2020.
Curved rectangular screen
It is available in two sizes. There is a 41mm model that features a 1.6-inch square AMOLED display with a resolution of 320 × 360 pixels at 301ppi.
For those who want the “real” Wear Os experience with the new Oppo watch, the 46mm model might be more appealing. Indeed it adds LTE connectivity (e-eSIM), and a large 1.9 inch 402 × 476 pixel AMOLED display at 326 ppi with superb maximum brightness of 1000 nits.
Customizing the screen and bracelet
It is possible to choose the color of its frame according to the model:

Finally, you get the faces built into the Oppo system, as well as the large library offered by Wear Os.
Features Oppo Watch ECG
Oppo’s Wear Os smartwatch uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, but it also features an Ambiq Micro Apollo3 coprocessor that helps it extend its lifespan and longevity.

The Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform launched two years ago has received a useful redesign in the form of the Snapdragon Wear 4100 this year. But for now Oppo is keeping the 3100 chip.
The smartwatch only ships with one memory configuration. It thus embeds 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage available, regardless of the model chosen. This combination makes operations extremely smooth and responsive, which is yet another rare feat for Wear Os watches. This is because it wakes up quickly from sleep mode, reacts quickly to tapping and sliding, and doesn’t spend too much time charging.
Smartphone functions
The Oppo Watch offers some of the best features we’ve seen from a watch using Google’s software. Its formatting functions are suitable for everyone, the power is enough to run all the apps you need and there are also some extras added by Oppo.
Display of notifications (SMS, social networks, messages)Taking phone calls on the wristGoogle Assistant voice commandsRace list, reminders, appointmentsStopwatch and countdownControlling music on the watch screenGoogle Fit activity trackingGoogle Pay contactless paymentRing your phone to find it (or vice versa)Smooth and fast navigationThe notification shade on top, which borrows the color scheme and iconography of Oppo’s namesake for smartphones, and the app drawer are perfectly done.
The basic “Rolodex” list of apps has been phased out in favor of a 3 × 3 grid of round icons, again a display in the mind of a smartphone. The quick buttons at the top include all the essentials like sound profiles, theater mode, lock, flashlight mode, “Find my phone” feature and brightness control. User-friendly and truly intuitive thanks to the universal icons.
Health functions
.Integrated heart rate monitor.ECG sensor.Guided breathing.Sleep tracking
First, it is equipped with a heart rate monitor that regularly checks and tracks your pulse. It can also alert you to any unusual or high readings.
The update adds the ECG sensor that allows you to get an EKG on demand. The Oppo Watch ECG watch has been certified as a Class II medical device by the Chinese Food and Drug Administration. Thus, Oppo has become the second Chinese brand offering a certified ECG watch.
Better yet, Oppo claims that the Watch ECG edition has already obtained FDA approval in the United States.
By mixing the ECG and heart rate, it can not only understand the state of your heart’s health, but also predict heart disease and risk. You can see the speed of your heartbeat and the dynamics of your heartbeat in real time. In the event of an abnormal heart rhythm, you will immediately receive an alert.
All it needs is a SpO2 sensor to measure the oxygen level in the blood to bring it up to the level of the Apple Watch Series 6.
Function followed activity
.Google Fit offers over 90 tracking modes.HeyTap Health Suite Offers More Exercises.Integrated GPS
The GPS is integrated to follow your races or your hikes, ski or bike.
The deactivated alert is also present, and even offers to make you do a fairly long stretching session every hour.
Traditionally, Google Fit p has been found with around a hundred exercise and sports tracking options. This includes a number of water sports like stand-up paddle boarding and kite surfing. However, it is strongly recommended not to use the Oppo Watch ECG in seawater.
The HeyTap Health app in addition to Google Fit
If that wasn’t enough, the Oppo Watch gives you the option to download the HeyTap Health app. Contrary to what the name suggests, it acts as a hub for many of the watch’s features.
It offers five specially designed training programs: Fitness Running, Fat Burning Running, Outdoor Walking, Outdoor Cycling, and Swimming. By selecting them, you will be guided through a series of instructions as well as the target heart rate. These additions make the Oppo Watch ECG a very practical training companion.
It has something to offer users of all skill levels. All of the exercises, heart rate monitoring, and pedometer seem to work with reasonable accuracy.
Parental control option (in China)
Not long ago, OPPO and Xiaotiancai Watch started a partnership, and the social network app “WeChat” was added to the OPPO Watch app store. This allowed OPPO to have the “first” watch using this famous Xiaotiancai social network. With this app, parents can join Xiaotiancai family group through OPPO Watch, send voice messages with children who use Xiaotiancai watch and receive voice, text and emoticon messages.
Oppo ECG watch autonomy
On the battery version it measures 300mAh, which should last around 24 hours of “normal” use, but can be extended up to 14 days when the power saving mode is activated.
The battery is also slightly larger, at 430mAh, and is expected to last 30 hours in “smart mode” or up to 21 days in power saving mode.
One of the main advantages of both smartwatches is their compatibility with SuperVOOC flash charging technology. This allows them to be fully recharged in just 75 minutes from 0%. To do this, simply place the watch on its included fast charging unit.
Oppo Watch ECG price and release date
The officialization of the Oppo with ECG was made on September 24, 2020 in China. But, it remains to be seen if we’ll see an international version eventually.
The official prices and release date of the Oppo Watch ECG international version:
Black or pink 41 mm model at € 249, October 2, 2020.The 46 mm black version starts at 2,499 Yuan, or 329 euros for us, on October 2, 2020.
The Oppo Watch with eSIM only in 46mm is slated for release on October 22, 2020 for $ 349. An excellent price, corresponding to a similar configuration at half the price of the watch with an apple.
