Philips SmartSleep – A wearable that improves your sleep

Most sleep trackers simply monitoring your nights and then allow you to see what you have done. But not the Philips SmartSleep banner.

The Philips SmartSleep is not going to tell you if you have moved a lot while sleeping. It goes much further by using white noise to improve your sleep.

Philips SmartSleep

The Philips SmartSleep, unveiled at CES 2018 this week, uses built-in sensors attached to the forehead to detect brain activity. It then shares the information collected with the mobile app to determine if you are in the deep sleep phase. If you are, the headband speakers begin to emit white noise in a repeated pattern. According to Philips it would help you sleep better.

According to the company, 70% of people who have had sleep problems and have tried SmartSleep for two weeks noted that they felt less tired.

Philips therefore seems very confident and certain of the ability of its SmartSleep to improve the sleep of those who wear it. But some people have reservations about the design of the product. Some people seem to see a Baseball cap worn upside down. According to them, the ergonomics of the product should be reviewed.

Anyway, as we know, this was also not the first sleep aid that opted for the intricate design of the headband. The startup Rythm also unveiled its Dreem headset last summer, which, like that of Philips, aims to stimulate your brain and lengthen your deep sleep cycles with sounds.

So far, Philips has made no announcement regarding the official release date or price of its SmartSleep. Personally, I'm not necessarily a fan of this type of product. I have serious questions about the constant stimulation of the brain. Besides, I don't know about you, but I don't think I could sleep with something like that on my head.
