Polar puts a fitness tracker in a t-shirt

What if smart health connected watches were already out of date for athletes? While companies compete in ingenuity and design to offer increasingly efficient smart health connected watches but also master key, some companies are targeting the sports market in another way. This is the bet of the Finnish company Polar which reveals at CES 2020 its “Team Pro Shirt” jersey. Loaded with sensors, it measures all the data necessary for athletes. Already used by American sports teams, it should arrive on the market in the coming months.
Polar reinvents the chest strap
Polar unveils the “Team Pro Shirt”, its new jersey smart health connected to CES 2020. Equipped with two sensors, it measures heart rate in real time. Thanks to the GPS located under the pass, it is possible to assess speed, acceleration or even the distance traveled. Data that can be useful for Sunday athletes but also for high performance athletes.
Discreet and close to the body, it can also easily be worn under another t-shirt. Thanks to the fact that the jersey is really glued to the body, the sensors benefit from high precision. All of this data is then sent to a smartphone or tablet using a dedicated application that will allow it to be analyzed.
Tom Fowler, president of Polar U.S., explains: “We have re-imagined the chest strap for professional athletes and we have developed the Team Pro Shirt. " For athletes, this t-shirt is much more practical than a smart health connected watch. or that other smart health connected devices since it does not reduce the range of motion and add no weight.
The Team Pro Shirt used in the NBA
Polar jersey is already in use by NBA, NFL or NHL teams. As is often the case, American sports are at the forefront in terms of using new technologies to improve sports results. The sensors then send the data directly to a coach iPad who can adapt training conditions in real time. There is no doubt that the great athletes who already use it will be used to advertise this product. It will be interesting to see if the French teams are also adopting this equipment in the coming months.
Note that Polar is not yet completely abandoning the market for smart health connected watches. The brand has clarified that the "Team Pro Shirt" is compatible with most of the smart health connected watches it produces, such as the V800, M600 and even M400 models.. This compatibility can make it possible to use the jersey data to personalize a training session then sent to the athletes on their watch.
The “Team Pro Shirt” should be available for sale from March. The exact date and price have not yet been released by Polar.
