Qualcomm bets on wearables thanks to its new chip
[ad_1]
At Computex 2020, Qualcomm announced a new Snapdragon processor that would allow the brand to have a stronger presence in the wearable market.
A specialist in mobile technology, the American company is now looking into a new type of rapidly expanding market: that of wearables, portable technologies. Smartwatches, fitness trackers or even smart health connected glasses, the choice is wide and attracts more and more followers of new technologies.
So it seemed normal to expect a telecommunications giant to join the race. And it’s done from Computex, the computer and hardware oriented fair.
Qualcomm targets fitness trackers and watches for children
The Snapdragon Wear 1100 completes the 2100 of the same name, which had been announced a few months ago. If the 2100 processor was clearly intended for smartwatches, the new 1100 is supposed to be used for specific functions for devices with a more limited range of functions, such as activity trackers, wireless headphones, and other geo-location gadgets for children and the elderly.
The Snapdragon Wear 1100 prioritizes size and energy efficiency, while offering LTE and 3G connectivity as well as WiFi, Bluetooth and voice control. Qualcomm's iZat geolocation engine is designed specifically for devices that need to transmit a location continuously.
Companies such as Anda Technologies, inWatch or WeBandz have already announced children's watches that will use Snapdragon Wear 1100 technology.
Qualcomm’s interest in the wearable market demonstrates that these new technologies represent the future of smart health connected objects. It is obvious that the leading technology companies are entering a competition to conquer the hearts (and wrists) of the general public.
