Rejuvenate the face by modifying its volumes in moderation

Know how to evaluate the volumes of the face and its whole

Three points are essential in the aesthetic treatment to rejuvenate a face, before considering any intervention, even minimal:

  • the overall vision of the face

  • respect for the natural and harmonious appearance of the face

  • respect for his personality.

The evaluation of the shapes of the face and its globality (morphometry)

The face is a whole, and we must take into account the volume ratios between the different areas. For example, the nasolabial folds (between the nose and the corners of the mouth) are closely dependent on the curve of the cheekbones: if the cheekbones lose their relief and become flattened, the furrows can become more marked.

Then, the different volumes of the face (cheeks, cheekbones, mouth, forehead, chin, nose, etc.) must be proportionate to each other, and remain so, after any corrections. There are rules about the harmonious proportions of a face that a knowledgeable professional must know. A good aesthetic anti-aging treatment must be done by judiciously combining small progressive corrections in different parts of the face, to improve the whole thing in the end.

Respect for the natural appearance of the face

The desired result must be harmony between the different parts of the face, and give a perfectly natural look. It is not enough to inflate the cheekbones and the mouth of a person (like a Barbie doll) to rejuvenate his face. Of course, a swollen face like a balloon will hardly have any more wrinkles because the skin will be so tight, but at what cost!

This is more subtle and, apart from a general improvement in the face, and a healthy or rested look, the corrections that have been made by modifying the volumes should not be seen, and even less by someone who does not do not know. Moreover, wrinkles are actually less important in facial rejuvenation than wrinkles. global formsor the appearance of the skinand it can be treated otherwise than by blistering the face.

The goal is to restore the volumes lost in a face but above all not to transform it into something “supernatural”. In integral anti-aging, the doctor must guide you in this process, if not, change it.

How do facial volumes change with age?

The volumes of the face which decrease

Here, roughly in decreasing order of importance, are the volumes that are most damaged by aging of the face and neck:

  • loss of the roundness of the cheekbones : it is quite early especially in people who sleep poorly, or have digestive disorders of assimilation. In particular, the “valley of tears” is the hollow that forms, separating the cheekbone into two parts and which gives the beaten dog look.

  • loss of the oval of the face as a whole: deeper at the top and wider at the bottom due to the sag

  • refinement of the mouth : the lips become thinner with age, this is accentuated by the receding teeth on which they rest

  • hollow cheeks : especially for thin and/or tired people (see catabolic type)

  • digging of the temples : giving an effect of “skeletonization” of the face

  • hollowing back of the cheeks and cheekbones (towards the ears): rather around 70 years old, it also gives this “skeletonization” effect.

  • loss of volume in the angle of the jaw : it is more marked in younger subjects. In some cases, it may be interesting to reinforce it.

Facial volumes that can increase with age

Unlike the previous ones, these will have to be reduced if one seeks to rejuvenate the face. Trying to improve them with filler injections is risky. In particular, the volume that settles in the lower part of the face will age it, while a refined lower face gives a younger appearance. It will therefore be necessary to avoid weighing it down or increasing its overall volume by too many filler injections.

  • loss of the oval of the face : especially in its lower part. It is accentuated by theimpasto jowls, linked to the gradual descent of fat from the cheekbones and cheeks down the face (and also by excess weight).

  • the double chin : is a simple local accumulation of fat, also accentuated by excess weight.

Rejuvenate a face by rectifying its volumes

Corrective injections: opt for a natural product

In a comprehensive anti-aging approach, we will preferably use two natural filler implants: hyaluronic acid or the person’s fat (lipofilling). The quantities must be moderate, for an immediate correction, in complete safety. This will last 12 to 18 months for hyaluronic acid and several years for fat.

Done gently and with the appropriate equipment (blunt-tipped needles in particular), these injections leave almost no trace. There is no discomfort after the remodeling, and one can immediately resume one’s activities. Side-reaction effects are rare and easily treated.

Excess volume reductions

When one wants, on the contrary, to refine certain parts of the face, techniques make it possible to reduce the layer of subcutaneous fat such as the double chin or the jowls. It is possible to use here radiofrequency, carboxytherapy, certain lasers, or liporeduction techniques (micro-aspirations or micro-destructions of localized fat).

However, this will not replace weight loss if this facial fat is linked to excess weight.

In case of volume correction, have an integral approach

Whatever technique is used to repair loss of facial volume, remember to consider all of its causes. These are all the health disorders that can be reflected in the volumes of a face: poor nutrition, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalance, digestive disorders, psychological disorders…

It will be logical to first try to remedy these disorders, otherwise local treatments may be disappointing.

Finally, prevention is more than recommended. There are natural approaches and you can take action to maintain beautiful volumes in a face despite aging. You will find basic rules for maintaining harmonious volumes here.

Sagging skin and facial volumes

It begins when the renewal of our stock of elastic fibers begins to run out (after 40 years). It is responsible for sagging. This decrease in skin elasticity is accelerated by anything that increases oxidation (especially UV rays, the sun, tobacco, pollution, etc.) and what increases glycation (excess dietary sugars, foods with a high glycemic index , overcooked food, etc.).

We do not tighten the skin of the face as we reinflate a balloon

In an aging face, you should not confuse loss of volume with sagging skin. Wanting to systematically catch up on the slackening of the skin of the face, and to tighten it by increasing its content will ultimately lead to obtaining a puffy face (exactly as if one blows into a balloon to tighten the wall). This face may be smooth but it will no longer be that of the person we knew.

How to improve sagging neck and face skin?

Outside of facelift which is the classic indication, the non-surgical means that can be used here (provided that the “damage” is not too advanced) are:

– balancing the skin muscles of the face and neck by acupuncture and/or botulinum toxin injections– the regeneration of the fibro-conjunctiva framework of the skin by injections of carbon dioxide– the contraction of collagen (firming the skin) thanks to the heat generated by remodeling lasers, high intensity ultrasound and radiofrequency waves.

These treatments are without real danger, and have very few inconveniences in their aftermath (some redness for a few minutes, even a temporary bruise during an injection).

Experience has shown us that, for slight relaxations, taken quite early (around 40 or 50 years old) these techniques, in repeated and regular care protocols, could be very satisfactory. Of course, if the sagging skin is too advanced, you should not expect a miracle and only the surgical facelift will be able to change things (with its advantages and disadvantages).
